So why not let them make their very own Peter Cottontail Easter Basket. Made from an old shoe box and cotton balls, it's a very inexpensive project for them to make. I think the kids will really have a lot of fun making and using these baskets.
Peter Cottontail Easter Basket:
Materials needed:
Shoebox
Cotton balls
Felt - (4 sheets of white and 1 of pink)
Googly eyes
Pipe cleaners - (1black, 1pink and 1white.)
Pink pom pom (or could use pink felt for nose)
Glue (tacky glue works best)
Scissors
Glue cottons balls around the complete outside of the shoebox.
Take the white felt and cut out two bunny ears about 5" inches long.
Take the pink felt and cut two pieces about 4" long and about an inch narrower than the white ears.
Cut two 3" pieces of the white or pink pipe cleaner. Glue the pipe cleaners to each of the pink felt pieces, leaving a half inch on the top and bottom. Glue the pink pieces of the inner ear to the white pieces of the outer ear, making sure the pipe cleaner is in the middle.
While letting the ears dry a few minutes measure the insides of the shoe box and cut the white felt to pieces of these sizes. These will line the inside of the box, after you put the ears on.
Now glue the ears on the inside of the box, on one of the smaller sides, this will be Peter's head.
Next take the white pieces of cut felt and glue on the inside of the box; this will cover the bottom part of Peter's ears.
For Peter's face, you will glue on the googly eyes and the pink pom pom for his nose. For the mouth take an inch and a half piece of black pipe cleaner and bend it in the shape of a curvy W and glue under his nose.
At this time you can glue the whiskers on Peter. You can do so with the white pipe cleaners or toothpicks. Make the whiskers about ¾ of an inch to 1 inch long and glue between his nose and mouth.
For Peter's tail take 4 cotton balls, glue 3 of them together in a triangle shape, and glue them on the end of the box, opposite the head. Then take the last cotton ball and glue it on top of the triangle.
Now take his ears and bend them to the desired shape and you have completed your Peter Cottontail Easter Basket.
