A California supporter opened an office for Rick Perry in Iowa, just in case the Texas Governor decides to run. Why not open an office in California? It must be too far gone to recognize a good thing when it appears.
California legislators studied Texas. The Texas Governor recently visited California. And they still don't know why Texas is eating California's lunch.
Like Californians, folks all over the country discount the threat of Rick Perry running for president. Beneath the facade, they're afraid he'll win--a reasonable fear. Here are some of the more specific, if not unreasonable, fears that folks conjure up about the man who can do for America.
"America isn't ready for another president from Texas."
Oh, but it's ready for demise by a Chicago polit-bureaucrat.
"Perry sympathizes with Texans wanting to secede from the Union."
Freedom from our Federal klepotocratic autocracy doesn't sound like a bad idea.
"Texas ranks poorly in public education."
When the only choice is high school or food on the table, guess what wins?
"Perry declared Social Security a Ponzi scheme."
It is. Bernie Madoff doesn't hold a candle to SS. Besides, people had no choice but to put their money in so the government could use it to pay somebody else.
"Perry used to be a Democrat. Now he's a Republican."
And proud of it. A smart move for other Democrats to consider.
"Perry stands for fiscal responsibility."
No one in the White House and Congress knows what that means.
"Perry wants small government."
What? And put all those legislators and lawyers out of work?
"Perry's potential campaign will focus on jobs."
Who wants a job when you can collect on entitlements?
"Perry can't win."
Perry wins every race he enters, having lost no election yet. With a record like that, I'd put my Social Security check on Perry-to-Win.
"Obama will be re-elected."
Re-electing for more of the same is a fantasy of national proportions.
"It's Bush's fault."
If Perry doesn't run, it will be Bush's fault. If Perry runs, it will be Bush's fault. If Perry runs, wins, and lifts the country up from disaster, it will be Bush's fault...
...and apropos of the repetitive warped logic that prevails in politics. When he runs, Perry will win on homespun American values. Look for the good news any day now......
