Here are the top 10 responses of successful writers on how to become a writer.

1. Make Reading and Writing your Habit

Here's the top answer from successful writers themselves - be a wide reader and do a lot of writing. Reading a lot makes you knowledgeable in many areas of life making you able to write on mostly anything, this gives you fresh and new ideas all the time.

2. Set Specific Goals

Setting goals is very important to keep your momentum at top speed. Daily, weekly, monthly and so on goals should be set to help you keep track of your progress. This will keep you motivated and focused on where you want your writing skills to go.

3. Keep on Learning New Things

Always learn from your previous works, never be afraid to be rejected because it is only in this way you will know where you need to improve. Keep on writing and still write some more to hone your craft.

4. Have a Model Writer

Different people work at their best in different circumstances, some like it better working and learning on their own, but for those of you who gets more motivation by having a role model then look for one. It could be an English teacher from your 6th grade who would be willing to give you some pointers or critique your work, someone who will push you to go out of your comfort zone, spread your wings and try on new things.

5. Have Faith in your Abilities and Write from the Heart

Ask yourself what is it that you really want to do and make good at it. Search from your heart what your passion is and if it's writing, do everything to go for it whether your family approves of it or not.

6. Seek for a Support Group

You can seek support from family, friends, support group and other writers to help you become a good writer. They can be sources of ideas or even financial assistance on your writing career. In fact there were writers who found it hard in the beginning so they have to look for financial aid, in the likes of Piers Anthony and Dean Koontz. Support is very important especially in times when you feel down and need someone to lighten up your mood.

7. Rewriting your Draft

Once you are done with your work, always make it a habit to review and rewrite your work as often as possible until they become perfect. Sometimes it helps if someone will help edit your draft, it doesn't mean though that they will have the last say, just pick up whatever may be useful and move on with your work.

8. Have a Professional Attitude

Think of writing as a professional career and keep the appropriate attitude. Always keep in mind that whatever it is that you write will be embedded on the world wide web and will be around and seen by other writers and may even be copied and re-written, so always give it your best shot.

9. On Self-Publishing

Having your work published is very important to a writer. A lot of controversy is being debated on whether to self-publish or to look for a publishing house. Self-publishing entails not only money, but full time marketing - if this is okay for you then go for it. If you feel you can't handle it then look for a publisher who's willing to give you the break.

10. Don't QuitThis is the last one, but the most important one, never let anyone take your dream. There may be disappointments and frustrations, but remember that everyone who succeeded means they never gave up no matter how hard it was.
