1. No Advance Techniques:
Seriously, WTF? Melee was a lot of fun competitively because of the amount of glitch moves it had (including blackhole, that was so much fun). Wavedashing is one of the most essential technique in Melee, and it was taken out. Fast Fall, l-cancel, jump-cancel are all nullified or canceled. Infinite return from Samus is gone. Even ledge guarding is gone.
2. Falco's reflector:
Ok, you must understand that I am a Falco melee player for the most part (besides Marth). So, you will understand the frustration that I get when I find out that Falco is significantly nerfed. Falco's reflector no longer combo (real guaranteed combos if you have enough skill), most of his attacks are nerfed, and he got slower. That's the worst thing that can happen to a top tier character.
3. Short-Hopping:
This is different from #1 because SH is still there, but it's completely useless. SH used to be much lower, so that double laser shots makes sense, Marth's neutral air actually hits ground character, Falco's meteor smash actually hits without delay. A high SH doesn't even make sense in itself. Why would you make SHORT hopping TALL?
4. Infinite Air dodge:
This should be very obvious to advance players (but then again, so is everything else). Infinite Air Dodge completely destroys air combos, and it makes attack in the air so boring. It would be boring because one person who is at a disadvantage (due to a combo starter) can just keep airdodging to safety. Air dodging used to have a negative consequence (falling off the damn place), but now air dodging is risk-free. You can air dodge all you like and be perfectly fine. Every move should have a negative consequence (when you attack, it's delay, when you run, its possibility to get hit, when you shield, it's grab, when you jump, it should be air combo, when you dodge, it should be delay as well).
5. Character Balance:
Character balancing is always great if done right. By doing it right, I mean making lower tiered characters better and more competitive. What Nintendo did was to dumb down top tiered characters. This means that the lower tiered characters were mostly slow and not fun compared to the top tiered characters, NOW EVERY CHARACTER IS SLOW AND NOT FUN!
6. Glitch:
Ok, so for a game that's hating on almost every glitch in Melee, SSBB adds a glitch in the game. In the pirate ship level, you can jump through the platform on the very left if you are in the water. That is ridiculous. In Melee, that would result in death as punishment for the player being clumsy or lack of skill. However, in SSBB, it's suddenly ok. Nintendo seems to be trying to babysit the gamers by making it stupidly easy.
7. Multiple Air B:
So you've read my disgust that SSBB lacks Samus's ability to have infinite jumps back to the level. SSBB decided to do that for just about anyone. Now, you can have multiple B attacks in the air. That ruins any strategy needed to plan for the perfect B attack or use regular A attacks. This gets rid of strategy in favor of randomly pushing the B button till you either safely lands on the ledge or accidentally hit someone. In SSBM, every move is timed, every move is planned, every move is thought out. In SSBB every move is accidental and risk-free.
Now people who are in favor of this new balance will cry: IT MAKES IT MORE FAIR! No it does not. Fair would mean that those who puts more time and effort in perfecting techniques would get a lot more than those who only play casually. Fair would mean that advanced players would be better than novice players. By taking out the advance techniques, it makes it meaningless to play in hardcore competitions. I'm not even going to talk about Final Smashes because they completely throw the game off because a novice could beat an advance player by simple luck.
Overall, the game is a lot slower, less competitive, less flashy, less technical, less skill, and less fun especially for veteran competitive players. Sequels are supposed to give MORE: more strong attacks for weak characters, more advance techniques to master, but only 1 F'ING AIR DODGE! Even the SmashBoards hardcore players are complaining. Don't get me wrong tho, this is pretty decent entrance into Super Smash Brothers, but if you want a much better game, get SSBM. If you don't know about any competitive fun from Melee, then it's a shame and you probably won't think SSBB is bad because you've never experienced how good it could've been.
