Unique Style of Gameplay
HoN is the mix between a RTS (Real - Time - Strategy) game like Starcraft, an action game, and an RPG (Role - Playing - Game) This is what makes the game unique and intresting. There are only a few other games out there like this. A few of these are Leagues of Legends, Warcraft 3, and Defense of Ancients (DoTA). The gameplay is what make HoN and all these other games unique.
To play a game, you go in to a lobby of 1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3, 4vs4, or 5vs5 or you can create your own game. If the game is public (and not private ex. Only open to your friends) people also playing the game will join. Eventually the host will start the game and you will be brought to the picking phase of the game. This is where the fun starts. Depending on which game type you joined or created there are over 50 heroes to choose from! All of which have their own unique spells and abilities to help you and your team kill the other team!
How to Play Heroes of Newerth
When the timer reaches 0 you will enter the game with everyone else. Depending which side (Legion or Hellbourne) your on you'll be placed in a lagoon of some sort. This is the safe area where you can heal and buy items. There are 3 lanes you can chose from which you can go in (in most maps) and when the clock at the top reaches 0 "creeps" will begin to spawn and eventually they will walk down the lane and fight eachother. This is how you gain money, and see the other players for the first time (depending on what difficulty of players your playing with) As the game goes on you take down towers, fight the other team, and eventually one team will victor over the other by the other team conceding or by taking down the other teams base. After the game is over (most last 30-60 minutes) you can join a new game and play a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT hero with COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT skills and play a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT role in your team's journey to victory.
Updates
Heroes of Newerth is a fairly new game, only being released a few months ago, and has gotten a lot of attention from gamers worldwide. Because of how new the game is, there are updates frequently, fixing bugs adding new heroes, adding new items, etc. This is what makes the game fun to play anytime, there is always something new to try.
New? No Problem.
If you think since your new you're going to have trouble and you have never tried a game like this before consider the following:
1) The game is only around $30
2) There is a very in - depth tutorial you can do in the game
3) This game is actually very easy to adapt to once you play for a couple weeks
The Problems
There are a few problems with this game.
1) People have microphones because of the built in system HoN has, and some people are extremely rude, they don't care if you are new. They are extremely competitive as well.
2) In my opinion this is a problem. The PSR system. When you win or lose a game your PSR will rise or lower, this is what people usually judge you by. Low PSR = play with newbies. High PSR = play with better people. Although, you can see how this can be a problem when you're playing a 5vs5 and you lose because of someone else on your team. This effects your rating
