Time Traveling Hiro
As many of you know from watching the first season, that the main character Hiro was sent back in time at the end of the first season. Throughout season 2, Hiro is left to explore the past of Takezo Kensei his boyhood hero. Hiro finds that by traveling back in the past he has altered the future and must stay in the past to set it right. This is an excellent story line following Hiro through tribal Japan to shape history.
The Virus That Killed Them All
The other characters of the story develop around The Company and the research and manufacturing of a deadly virus that has the potential to wipe out a staggering amount of the population. The plot develops around the Shanti Virus which comes from a varied strain of virus that killed Mohinder Suresh's sister and could lead to the global outbreak. This season also develops some really good plot with Noah and Claire's family ties and developing trust (and mis-trust) within the group.
Generations of New Characters
In season two we also see the return of some new characters mixed in with old characters. There are also a few new heroes such as Monica who is a muscle mimic (can mimic any action she can see). And more abundantly in season 2, there are more villians. To name a few villains, there is Elle who can use electricity to torture and kill people and there are also some very deadly villians like Adam Monroe and Nightmare Man. I don't want to spoil anything by telling about them so I'll just say that they add a lot of suspense to the story. You will also see the re-appearance of the major villain Sylar, however he plays a smaller role in this season having lost his abilities. You'll see him traveling most of the season with two new characters Maya and her brother to return to NYC.
Season 2 Finale
So that gives you a pretty quick rundown on season 2. In my opinion, I really enjoyed watching this season and the ending to the season was really good. I do feel however that the writers strike heavily affected the season (considering they planned 24 episodes). They chopped out much of the Shanti virus story and compacted it to fit into the 11 episodes that were aired. Look out for my season 3 review which will pick up where this one left. Much of the loose ends from season 2 are tied off in season 3. Even though this season is short, it is still really engaging to watch and you will still be wanting more "Heroes" when you are done watching. Go buy it today!
