Hershey's Drops New Chocolate Candy Really Delivers

Tracie Walker
Have you tried Hershey's new candy, Hershey's Drops, yet? As a long time chocolate lover, I feel that chocolate candy is the creme de la creme of chocolate delight. Lately there have been many innovations on chocolate candy, but many of them are just weird, like bacon chocolate. However, thanks to Hershey, the King of Chocolate, I have good news for chocolate candy lovers! Hershey debuted their new candy, called Hershey's Drops, in December 2010, and actually improved upon the standard fare. Billed as "a lot of Hershey's happiness in a little drop of chocolate," the nickel sized discs of chocolate deliver a satisfying chocolate punch.

Larger than M & M's, Hershey's Drops don't have a hard candy coating, but instead feature a confectioner's glaze that keeps them from melting easily. But when one is placed on the tongue, the lozenge dissolves into a richly satisfying morsel of pure milk chocolate. The shape, unlike Hershey's pointy kisses, is perfect for savoring. But what about the cost?

Price-wise, a King Size bag of 2.1 ounces is around a dollar. A larger bag, 8 ounces, sells for about three dollars. Calorie-wise, however, the 2.1 ounces that claims to be a single serving is a bit dear at 290 calories, 150 of them from fat. However, the chocolate flavor is so richly satisfying that I found one or two to be a perfect little treat, with no need to eat the whole bag at one sitting. In fact, I had no hesitation about sharing the bag with friends, all of whom agreed that this new chocolate candy from Hershey's is a winner.

Hershey's Drops come in two flavors. Milk Chocolate, similar to the familiar Hershey bar, or Cookies and Cream, a white chocolate version with chocolate cookie bits throughout. They are beginning to appear in more and more stores as they gain a following. I've found the chocolate drops in Publix and Walmart, and I've heard they sell in K-Mart and Walgreens. The price isn't bad, and if you share them with your friends and family, or savor one or two a day, the calorie burden isn't too steep either. For a small chocolate candy with a powerful chocolate taste, you might enjoy Hershey's Drops.
