Of course the number one thing you'll want to know is which one tastes better, and that really depends on the person in question. Hershey's Hot Fudge has a sweet taste that is directly reflective of the candy they produce. Hershey's Hot Fudge has the same great taste we have all come to expect from a Hershey's product. The chocolate is sweet and leaves no bitter taste, and is very rich in flavor. In fact you may be surprised at how rich in flavor Hershey's Hot Fudge really is.
Hershey's Hot Fudge does not have the waxy feel and taste that many other hot fudge brands tend to incorporate into their product. The hot fudge Hershey produces is smooth and creamy, and each and every time you use it the hot fudge has the same consistency. Smuckers Hot Fudge has a consistent taste each and every time you use it, but does have a bit of a waxy feel and taste to it, especially if you leave it in the microwave a little too long.
Smuckers Hot Fudge has a good flavor as well, but leaves a little bit to be desired. The chocolate seems like it's missing something, like a little added sugar or richness, but still goes great with any ice cream. Smuckers had long been know for their fine products, and reduced sugar content, and actually the lack of sugar does not take away too much from the overall flavor of the hot fudge itself, in fact for anyone looking for a good hot fudge with less sugar, Smuckers is the way to go.
Now of course hot fudge is supposed to be hot, obviously, and both brands come with specific instructions on how to heat the product. Both Hershey's and Smuckers hit the nail on the head in this department with directions that go perfectly with the product. Some hot fudge can be put into the microwave and come out blistering hot, and your unable to pour the product out of the jar, or you'll burn your hands severely in the process, but not with either Smuckers of Hershey's. I'll have to admit that Hershey's did come out a little better because the temperature was just right for the ice cream where as Smuckers was a little hot, and the fudge boiled over a bit out of the jar, but both products have very simple and accurate instructions overall.
Value is a big part of buying anything and the subject of hot fudge is no different. I'll have to say the Hershey's seems to be the better value of the two products because not only is the taste more desirable for a hot fudge Sunday, but also because the price for a large bottle of Hershey's Hot Fudge is about the same for a small bottle of Smuckers Hot Fudge. For just under two dollars a bottle the Hershey's Hot Fudge is indeed the better value, you just get more for your dollar, and the taste is a bit better then Smucker's Hot Fudge.
Overall I'd have to say that if you're an ice cream lover who's looking for a product to make a hot fudge Sunday, then go with Hershey's Hot Fudge. However, if you're trying to watch your sugar intake, then you may try Smuckers brand, but for the best taste and consistency Hershey's Hot Fudge defiantly the brand to go with.

Post a CommentI should clarify by saying that both Smucker's and Hershey's have HFCS, but the Hershey's has it as its #1 ingredient, meaning it's more corn syrup than anything else.
The extra sweetness in the Hershey's comes from high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). If you're used to the overly sweet taste of American processed sweets due to the ubiquity of HFCS, then I suppose Hershey's is the way to go.
For a more natural and healthier product, Smucker's hot fudge is the better choice.
The only reason why Smucker's hot fudge boiled over is b/c of the simple reason that you heated it too long in the microwave.
oh yeah lol, thanks for the comment
I bet you really suffered through this comparison, lol. Good job. :}
