I am tried of it!
It's not his fault and I am not standing for it anymore
the belittling comments
making him the butt end of your jokes..
he didn't asked to be born into this cruel ass world
to people who could have cared less if he lived or died
what makes you think it's right to poke and prod him?
make fun of him?
laugh in his face and push him away?
like he is nothing more then a piece of trash with no emotions or care...
Who gives you the right to judge him?
HE IS JUST A BOY!
He can not help his delays...
he did not ask for the pain or heartache he has endured!
You sitting back as if your children are so perfect.
Who are you to judge...?
Have you lived his life?
Your children have not endured what this boy has gone through,
yet you mock him
and make fun of him
because he is delayed?
He has gone through more in his short little life
then what most have as adults!
And he has survived!!
You are so blinded by your set ways and mind
that you can't see...
he is only trying to get your attention, some love.. any scrap you will throw his way
yet you throw him shit and laugh when he laps it up...
It's sickening and I've had enough..
you better show that boy RESPECT
because this MOM has had enough!
I have warned you now the warning is over!
Save your breath, your comments the same...
It's just a joke you say..
well if you don't see me laughing... you best run the other way!
To many children are made fun of due to mental, emotional and/or physical delays. Too many people, even adults, see these children as different and can't see the wonders these children really are. If these people would open their eyes to be more giving and understanding of their time and heart, these children that are to often lost, may just have that chance to bloom fully! We need to make sure our children are more accepting of things that are different to them, as well as we need to stand up to those adults who pass judgement regarding these children, sadly even in front of their own children...

Post a CommentKids are so cruel... sometimes adults, too. I'm glad that you wrote this.
This saddens me as you know I work with kids with autism and other delays. If people give them a chance they are so loving and smart. I look forward to work because of them.
I thought I commented on this! I know I read it. Hugs
Touching and heartfelt. It's a shame that there's so many ignorant people out there in this world. You did an excellent job with this piece. This was an excellent topic to write about.
I have seen that assignment in other schools as well Amanda and it saddens me too. I understand the reasoning for the assignment and a few like you can see what it was meant to be for.. to understand and feel the seperation, but the majority of kids see it as just that.. a seperation.. them and us mentality. Thank you for your comment and sharing!
I really love this article because I remember in high school I had an assignment in a psychology class where we had to have lunch with the special education kids. We also had to interview one of the staff in that department. I was saddened that the only way these kids hung out with so-called "regular" kids is because of a class assignment. I also think it is interesting how many kids are in special education, but only because of being slightly slow....my bf was in special education because his writing skills were bad, but other than that he was really smart. Just some thoughts that came about while reading this article :)
Being one of those "socially delayed" children myself I really appreciate this.
thanks for writing this. my youngest son is on thhe autism spectrum. he also has a.d.h.d., and agrowt hormone problem. he's 13 and looks like an eight year old. it doesn't help that he behaves like a younger child, too. adults assume that i'm a bad mother. kids assume that he's defective, too. i hate it! these kids struggle enough--without pressure to be somene they cannot be.
your anger really comes through this poem. i'm glad you were able to give it a voice.
Go get em momma!! There is nothing more fierce than a momma hen. He is so blessed to have you, just as you are blessed to have him!!
You just said it all about my son who was born cocain addicted, mildly mentally retarted (but yet can still notice when someone is cracking a joke about him) AND he is also developmentally delayed. He really has a hard time sometimes at school yet school is his favorite thing. He never makes me sorry that I adopted him. He is the most wonderful child ever born and I feel sorry for people who don't see that.
There is no excuse for people to act that way. It's not the same I know but I was teased unmercifully as a child because my dad was a convict; like that was somehow MY fault. A lot of parents wouldn't even let their children play with me and their hatred was picked up by their children. I used to get spit on, beat up, made fun of, etc. I unfortunately KNOW how cruel kids can be. Unfortunately, they learned that from someone and that is far too often their own parents.
