"For years, we are offering recycled products to our corporate customers, and to the industry in China, and now we are expanding out project so that it will include small businesses, as a response to the demand on the market", said Ryan Donovan, one of the Hewlett-Packard, spoken men.
The protection of the environment is becoming an important issue in China, where the towns and the villages were exposed for years to massive pollution because of the accelerated economic growth. The country also became a frequent destination of electronic waste brought from other countries. These electronic products have been affecting severely the places where they have been stored.
Hewlett-Packard customers from China, can now hand their computers and other products, such as printers, monitors, and scanners, to the company in order to be recycled. There are service stations in over 31 cities across China that are equipped to handle such devices. The products will be taken in by Hewlett-Packard employees for recycling.
The Hewlett-Packard initiative to recycle Personal Computers in China will be extended next year, in order to include more cities, and more service stations where consumers can leave their old electronic devices, said the company.
Hewlett-Packard is not the only company that is offering, in China, free recycling for Personal Computer and other equipment. In December, last year, Dell Inc. announced a program that will include Personal Computer recycling and other related products for corporate clients in China. The difference is that this program will only allow the equipment to be returned, restored, and sold again, or sent directly to recycling.
The companies have started these types of programs because of the recent problems with the pollution of the environment. Even if the image of China is not that good from the global view, it looks like they are taking things serious when dealing with problems that may harm the population living there.
The Chinese government is very strict when implementing laws there, as seen before when the Internet restrictions were applied. This tells us, that the companies will follow exactly the rules of the law, and incidents will not happen, because in the past, other companies claimed that components were recycled, when instead they were stored in secret storage facilities, fortunately this will not be the case.
