Tim Allen, a Big Fan of the Germans?

This link will direct you to a video of Tim Allen, the star of Home Improvement and the Toy Story series, making some jokes about the German language. Some of his friends have revealed that this is not a flash in the pan to get a cheap laugh. No, these roots run much deeper. Allen may possess what some people would call an "obsession" with the Germans. In fact, with all things German.

He is able to ridicule the German word for "butterfly" because the language is very close to his heart, as is the German culture he has adopted, almost as his own. All of his friends agree that he does not under any circumstances follow the teachings of Adolph Hitler, but embraces the lighter, and more fun-filled aspects of what it means to be German. One friend, however, texted: "I think you have to like Hitler a little bit to work for Walt Disney. It's pretty much the same thing, jk lol."

Allen's humor is based on (in his words) humorless people. Why does he love the Germans so much? Various philosophers will give different answers for this question. Deceased psychologist Sigmund Freud might suggest that Allen has conquered what he calls reaction formation. This is a defense mechanism in which people respond to something with the opposite of what they actually feel (I HATE you becomes I LOVE you). Since the first world war, America has been a mixed bag of feelings towards the Germans, admiring their efficiency, technical skills, and ambition but denying any love for the culture that brought about two major wars. Tim Allen, however, realizes this, and is able to admit his love for the German culture that has become so dear to him.

So what does the future have in store for one of Hollywood's brightest stars? Let's just say that a tour of Germany is not (repeat NOT) out of the question. Tim could enjoy the sights of Berlin one day, and another enjoy lunch at Frankfurt and dinner in Hamburg (OK, that's a bit of a stretch) . But don't think for a second that he wouldn't be loving every minute of it. Ach-Tim!
