Hey Katy Perry, Here's Five Song Ideas for You to Try

Rolando Cruz
Katy Perry is hot right now. The singer who produced such hits as I Kissed a Girl, and Hot n Cold with the 2008 release of One of the Boys, showed she wasn't a one hit wonder with the successful follow up album, Teenage Dream. Her success is such that even Sesame Street has taken notice, inviting the quirky singer to sing a duet with the popular children's next with her music? Just in case Perry suffers from a massive case of writer's block when putting together her next album, here are a few song topics (with sample lyrics thrown in for good measure) I would like to see her try.

I'm Not Taylor

For starters she could take a tongue in cheek shot at pop/country sensation Taylor Swift with a song in which she compares herself to the wholesome looking singer. The song could be titled, I'm not Taylor, and offer lyrics along the lines of:

I'm not that bad/
But I'm not the girl next door/
Are you sure you want me boy/
Or is it Taylor Swift you're looking for/

Stimulus Plan

A song like Stimulus Plan could make use of the popular (or is it now infamous) economic recovery phrase, as a way to convey a more intimate message. The song could tell the story of a guy who keeps trying "the same old same old" to get his girl's motor revved up. Of course, the girl has a different take on the whole thing. The lyrics could go something like:

Roses and wine are so blasé /
No matter what your friends might say/
To really stimulate me hun/
Your best bet's to make it fun/

Modern Day Tragedy

Perry's fondness for Britain can come out in a song that pays tribute to the William Shakespeare. The song, Modern Day Tragedy, could update the story of Romeo and Juliet and offer a more current retelling of the teenage tragedy. To give it a more current feel, the story could be set against the immigration issues that face illegal aliens in this country. The lyrics could include words like:

The story's always the same/
Ain't that a shame/
A modern day tragedy/
La Migra took you away from me/

I Didn't Mean it Literally

Katy's Christian upbringing could probably be put to good use with a song like I Didn't Mean it Literally. The song could be about a girl who tells her boyfriend to go to hell in a fit of anger, and later recants what she says. Partly out of regards for her upbringing, partly because she really doesn't want him gone for good. The lyrics might say:

What do I know of Heaven/
What do I know of Hell/
Nothing Really/
So next time please/
Don't take me quite so literally/

Roswell

Perry's quirky singing style could probably fit well with a song about space aliens. A song like Roswell, could tell the story of a girl so fed up with boys and love, that she muses about being abducted by aliens as an alternative. The offbeat lyrics to this song could say something like this.

I'm tired of what passes for love/
I'm searching the stars above/
For someone to whisk me away/
Beyond the milky way/
