Hey, I Want to Be a Pianist Too!

Keith Dailey
There is something very nice about musical instruments (And there is quite a variety on offer!)-the art of playing them can be acquired at any age! So, if you still nurture dreams about becoming a musician yourself, then you really should let nothing stand in your way! Choose your musical instrument, and just get going!

Now, it could be that the piano has always been your favorite instrument, and you dearly wish to master it! For after all, the notes that emerge from an accomplished pianist's hands can be sheer magic! And as a listener, you are left wondering at how the performer has managed to achieve such skill! Logic, of course, should tell you that he/she would have put in long hours of practice and hard work to reach these heights! Thus, it stands to reason that you will have to do the same if you want to be a good pianist too!

Okay, so the first thing that you need to do is to purchase a piano; that is, if you do not own one as yet. And mind you, ensure that it is of a high quality! Yes, this does create a hole in your pocket, and you might argue that your friend or neighbor is ready to share his/her piano with you! Again, saving up money to buy one is also going to take some time. Well, there is one simple answer to all your arguments-you can practice as much as you want and whenever you want, to achieve your goal faster if you have your own instrument! Do you realize that the versatile piano can be used to play classical music (Chopin, Haydn, Schuman, Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven, and Listz), western music (solos, accompaniments, and chamber music), jazz, and pop?

The next step is to find a way to teach yourself. Basic techniques are available via CDs or DVDs. Then, there are guide books and computer software. If these do not suffice to enhance your understanding, then you can hire a qualified professional's services. The one-to-one learning method can prove very effective if you do not give up on your daily practice-set aside some time every day. Finally, if you hate the idea of working alone, combine your lessons with someone else's; only ensure that you get maximum benefit from your lessons.

There are certain things to remember in order to become an expert pianist-developing the right attitude towards learning, self-discipline, starting with the basics before moving on to advanced lessons, being a good listener (of songs), and using your senses to good effect. A little effort, a little time spent wisely-and you will find yourself showered with praise by family and friends alike!
