Hey Ya'll, Danny Gokey Goes Country Thursday on American Idol

Why was Danny Gokey Doing Country on American Idol?

On American Idol show Thursday, Danny Gokey got back up on the stage and played to a happy and appreciative crowd, and he was doing country. I love Danny, and was reminded again of his star power. He looks like he is having fun, and his demeaner is friendly. I noticed the song wasn't as hard as I like to hear from him, but he did a nice job on it, and he had the house rocking.

Danny was grinning pretty hard throughout his performance and follow-up with Ryan Seacrest. He spoke quickly with the judges, apologizing to Ellen for missing hooking up with her on the show, and promising her that he would love to dance with her on her show. He told us he's happy and it's obvious; he was beaming and having a good time with everyone, obviously happy to be back, or maybe happy to have a story to tell after his near miss at American's #1. Although we was the 3rd runner up from American Idols 2008 show, he's memorable.

Danny Gokey told us he's going country - and he gave the credit to Randy Travis

Danny told Idols fans, "During his Hollywood activity last year, Randy Travis had asked Danny, "What about country; the fans would love and embrace you?"

Danny said, "I grew up on country; it was a heavy influence. I never really thought about singing it, but I love connecting with the audience and it's been great so far. The song 'My Best Days Are Ahead of me', Danny told the audience, had been written by a guy who had lost his wife too.

Danny looked happy and like things were falling into place for him - he's a warm affable kind of guy - maybe Nashville is a good place for him to settle.

Danny Gokey, Country, and Nashville seem to be a good mix
Jan Uebelherr of the Journal Sentinel, 2/28/2010, confirmed it with this report:

Nashville, Tenn. - Danny Gokey stands in his dressing room at Great American Country, the country music cable television network, checking out his look in a full-length mirror. It's less than a week before the release on Tuesday of his debut album, "My Best Days," and he's deep into yet another 14-hour day of promoting the big event.
Hot off his Season 8 "American Idol" ride, (he came in third), the 29-year-old Milwaukeean is in the middle of an experience that most musicians can only dream of: a CD on a major label, recorded in Music City, no less - and all the trappings that go with creating a new star. (Journal Sentinel)
