HGTV 2010 Green Home Located Near Cape Cod
HGTV's 1st Green Home Built in the Northeast is Scheduled for Completion by April 2010
The Pinehills is described by HGTV as "an innovative master-planned community". The neighborhood offers wooded lots, walking and nature trails, a swimming pool, a fitness center, three golf courses, and an adjacent shopping center.
HGTV's 2010 "Green" Home will be a single-family cottage -style home consisting of approximately 2100 square feet. The internal rooms will be a foyer, a living room, a lounge, a kitchen, a dining room, a sitting room, a laundry room, a three bathrooms, a kid-friendly bedroom, a guest bedroom, a master bedroom, and an unfinished basement. The external rooms/spaces are a front porch, a screened back porch, a backyard, a rooftop garden, a garden, and a detached garage.
Building emphasis for "green" homes is on cost efficiency and eco-friendly approaches to design and construction. Generally in the design there is also an emphasis on simple and practical living. Green building is also known as green construction or sustainable building. It is defined on Wikipedia as " the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout the building's life-cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and deconstruction."
As noted, this is the third annual "green" home to be built and given away by HGTV. The first HGTV "Green" Home was built in 2008 in Hilton Head, South Carolina. A medical biller from Bradenton, Florida named Marsha Coulthard won it. The 2009 "Green" Home was built in Tradition, Florida near Port St. Lucie. A lab technician from Saginaw, Michigan named Kari Coffey won it.
Viewers may enter daily for a chance to win HGTV's 2010 "Green" Home starting April 16th through June 4th. HGTV will be televising a tour of the new home on April 18th at 8pm ET/PT.
