HGTV Secrets from a Stylist -- Emily Henderson's New TV Show

HGTV's latest winner of Design Star was Emily Henderson, a stylist from New York City. A stylist arranges items for photo shoots so they look appealing and photograph well. Henderson beat out 11 other contestants to win this year's Design Star.

The description of her new show Secrets from a Stylist on HGTV's Web site asks "Do you truly know what you like or don't like when it comes to interior design? Or do you need an expert to help evolve your taste?" Henderson helps people decide what they like by asking them questions and asking them to arrange items in order of preference. Some of the questions she asked her first guest Ian Brennan, co-creator of the TV show Glee, include the following:

- What decade Brennan could most relate to
- What items Brennan wanted to keep in his existing rooms
- What clothes he liked to wear

She also asked him to arrange five fabrics in order of preference and five lamps in order of masculine to feminine to gauge her idea of masculinity and femininity against his.

This was an interesting part of the show, and I wondered how she came up with this list of criteria. Was it of her own making? Did she borrow the idea from someone else? How did she choose some of those ugly fabrics?

I'm a lover of vintage and really enjoyed the way she brought in some truly one-of-a-kind pieces that you do have to scrounge to find. All in all, I think Secrets of a Stylist will be a hit. Enough people, young and old, can relate to this style of interior design to make the show a popular one with a wide range of folks.

I can just see people sitting on their couches taking their own little design/fashion quiz at the commercial break.
