HGTV's The Antonio Treatment to Premiere After the Rose Bowl Parade

Design Star Antonio Ballatore to Makeover a Music Studio in Pilot Episode

Tamara McRill
The Antonio Treatment, showcasing HGTV's newest Design Star Antonio Ballatore, is set to premiere Friday at 1 p.m./12c. The pilot episode is set to air after the Rose Bowl Parade, which is also being shown on HGTV. The Antonio Treatment is expected to inject a little design rock'n'roll into the network's programming.

HGTV's website states that Ballatore's goal with The Antonio Treatment is to "transform their lackluster spaces into radically original, yet functional custom creation that will rock their worlds."

Throughout the season of The Antonio Treatment Ballatore is expected to makeover some untraditional spaces. This unconventional design show's pilot is to start off in this vein, as Antonio will be breathing new life into a music studio.

Antonio is no stranger to the music scene, being a musician himself. This should give him the unique ability to merge function and design into the ultimate dream music studio.

Viewers were treated to a sample of Antonio's design vibe, in the HGTV special, The Antonio Project. Ballatore was featured redecorating his own home, turning it into a funky kingdom suited for the network's edgy new star. The redesign featured his father's throne chair and a headboard modeled after a tattoo hottie.

The overall feeling is that The Antonio Treatment will be more personality driven, than design guide. HGTV calls Antonio a "new breed of designer" and claims that viewers will be following him as he "develops his craft, finding his niche in the world of interior design." Time will tell if Antonio's design matches his big personality.

That's not to say that Ballatore doesn't have any design chops. Season four of Design Star and his 'pink geese' moments proved that. The Antonio Project host may not have traditional interior design training, but he does have some experience. According to his HGTV biography, Antonio got his start in construction. He went on to design clubs in New York City and photography sets. Some of Antonio's sets have been for famous photographers Annie Leibovitz and David LaChapelle. If nothing else, Ballatore should deliver design that looks amazing on camera.

If you miss the premiere of The Antonio Treatment, don't worry. The show is set to re-air at 9:30 p.m., on January 1, 2010 and at 12:20 a.m., on January 2, 2010.

ANTONIO HAS A LOT OF OUT OF THE BOX CREATIONS,BUT KNOWS HOW TO PUT A ROOM TOGETHER. A NORMAL JOE,WITH LOTS OF PERSONALITY AND PERSPECTIVE EYE FOR DESIGNS. WHEN CAN YOU DO MY SPACE. LOVE HIM ALREADY.

Way it goes, get your stuff out there and you never know.

Cannot understand how he won, his designs are amaturish and his color choices leave me cold. He has an arrogant way about him and I tried watching his show last night and could not take more than 15 min. before I turned him off.

the show is like design for douchebags. His design is horrible, he is unprofessional and the show is a train wreck. I wonder how quickly the owner (who seriously look like he was out of the jersey shore cast) changed the design.

not surprised they couldn't find any home owners that would let him ruin their homes.

I really enjoyed the show - was a lot of fun to watch.

Just finished watching the show for the first time. As a musician myself, I really appreciated what Antonio did with the people on this show (though it's still hard to see someone smash a guitar on the pavement. Lol.)
    Thanks for the article.
