Hidden Dangers at the Beauty Salon

Dangers Lurking at the Salon

Silly Puss
Many men and women all over the world head to beauty salons every single day to make themselves look and feel better and for the most part many of them do; but what many do not know is that their trip to the salon could cause some serious damage, infections, nerve damages, worsened allergies, and more hidden dangers are lurking at the beauty salons.

Getting a manicure and or a pedicure might not only cost you a pretty penny but it could cost some serious time spent at the emergency room if the instruments used were not properly sterilized first. Many states allow the salons to use chemical solutions instead of heat sterilizing and if done properly that will work just fine in sterilizing the instruments; if the instruments are not left in the solution for as long as they should be (ten minutes in between clients) then they can infect the next person. Things like warts, hepatitis C and staph infections can be caused by improperly sterilized equipment. Whenever anyone goes in to get a manicure or a pedicure they should always bring their own set of tools with them if possible it will reduce infection spreading by a huge margin. Also ask the manicurist to wash their own hands as well as making sure that their area is clean and everything that is used not just the nail tools have been properly cleaned including the foot bath and the bowl for the soapy nail soak.

A fairly new danger is now surfacing at the manicure/pedicure salons and they are the "Garra Rufa better known as doctor fish." They nibble away at the dead skin on hands and especially feet and while it might offer a pleasant tickling feeling they might not offer anything but more infections. Make sure you know that all precautions have been taken if you decide to go ahead and get a fish pedicure. Never go with any open sores or open cuts, just go ahead and reschedule your appointment if that is the case.

A couple dangers are lurking at the hair salons as well. First off infections, things like MRSA which can cause some people serious harm as well as lice, and ringworm. Make sure everything has been properly sterilized at the hair salon just as was stated above. Basically anything that can be sterilized anything that could have come into contact with the person before. Bring your own electric razor if you can to lessen the chance for some infections.

Another danger at the hair salon that can cause some serious pain is the hair washing. When you strain your neck back like that you can cause a pinched nerve in the neck and that can be very painful as well as costly, your chiropractor will love the money you spend seeing him. Just save yourself the trouble and either have the area around the sink padded or wash face down, you can also just wash your own hair at home right before you go in to the salon.

Bikini waxing a ritual for almost all women can cause yet again some serious infections. The skin that offers protection from infections gets stripped away when it gets waxed and that leaves women at risk for serious infections as well as minor one's. Things like folliculitis (hair follicle infection) to staph infection to ingrown hairs and scariest of all cellulitis which is a serious infection of the skin and the tissue right underneath. A women almost lost her life due to this all because she wanted to look good in a bikini. Go to womenshealthmag.com and read the entire story and you might just rethink about getting a waxing done.

Tanning, now pretty much everyone knows of the danger they put themselves in if they decide to go lay on a tanning bed but I will offer a reminder. Premature aging of the skin making it look rough, crumpled and just plain gross and it is not reversible. Also skin cancer, this is not taken seriously enough just because most kinds of skin cancer can be cured if caught early enough does mean the risks should be swept under the rug. Not everyone can be cured and the chance for death is highly likely if not caught early on, and there are not many signs to watch out for, it's just not worth it. Get a spray tan sure it's not the real thing but think of life later on and the nicer looking skin that was kept because it was not abused by so many harmful rays.

Allergies can be affected at all types of beauty salons because of the chemicals that are often used, this can cause headaches as well as breathing problems if you have asthma don't forget your inhaler and try to go somewhere that has good ventilation.

Remember to take a look around the salons make sure they look clean and that you see the workers disinfecting after clients leave. Don't be afraid to ask what their sterilizing procedures are. Make sure you have no open cuts or sores and just be careful most times you have nothing to worry about but it could pay off in the end to be a little extra cautious.
