Hidden Soul; Broken Spirit

Catdog
Caught up in the bitter reality of her own game

A pretender all along, "hypocrite;" her true name?

Smiles and happiness for all the day long, visible by everyone

Always friendly and never a frown, at least, until the day is done.

Hidden behind a sheet of misery, only to awake to put on that happy face

Playing the role she's seen others do, living in a horrid, unimaginable place

Going back to words once read now, you might even remember this one

Would you know me if you passed me on the street, recall that woman?

Like the once strong soldier, now only a helpless and unrelenting poor soul

Nowhere to hide, trying to escape the unseen; what someone once stole

From childhood to present still, she hasn't the slightest clue

Of the purpose, she has in this life, unsure what she must do

Yet as the day is long, she doesn't stop for a single moment

Afraid of what might pass her by if she allows herself hesitant

So is this a cover at all, a woman hiding underneath

Only to make others smile, is that her bequeath?

Waking each day, she puts on the mask to fool all, maybe a mistake

She does all she can even though her heart constantly does ache

What is she supposed to do, for her this is all she does know.

She strives daily to constantly do better and spiritually grow

To many she is a mentor, an inspiration, and a teacher

To her own self be true, who on earth did cheat her?

She is smarter than most, a heart bigger than most imagine

Bitter and weak, never willing to admit this is her real fashion

A hypocrite or leader? Which do you make this lady?

Inspiration and guidance, in her tales spoken bravely

Pouring out the internal catastrophe that daily does boil

Eager to stop the pain from finding another life to spoil

Reliving tales of experience, to encourage, hopefully, at least one

Preventing the deadly concoction that builds in her the demon

The wretched one that lies deep within one's soul,

Aching, painfully as it tears at the spirit it stole

Does this make her a pretender or a hypocrite?

Of the smile, she hides behind, who might benefit?

This is how she lives, the coping method of her choice

Like a favored drink, deadly only to her inner voice

Therefore, she accepts whatever name you bring her

If in that time, she can prevent one soul the hunger

Of happiness untold, her smile might just save someone today

Honest and dishonest both, better to help another, she'd say

Than to allow one to feel as she feels when the eve draws near

When the darkness removes her fake smile, remembering very clear

Why she continues daily to hide behind the mask of a smile each day

For the sake of all, deceitful; she is; as some might believe and say

However, she is a protector and a saint bringing smiles and their healings

No matter how untrue one might judge her, hiding all the day her feelings

For the grace of others and their lives, happiness of others, who can place blame?

Striving for happiness of others no matter her pain, even if hypocrite be her name!

You have painted a portrait of a woman with the amazing flow of your deep poetry. I especially love, who she would be, hypocrite or leader, and I love the last line. :)

this reminds me of so many women i know! we are compassionate to others--often to our own discomfort. and it comes from our own pain.

Very powerful words so beautifully stated I can feel her deception and her torn heart but daylight and smiles do give her peace
