It is impossible for your hands to completely avoid the sun. You need hands to pick flowers, cut the grass and grab the mail from the mailbox. All of these activities, no matter how brief, expose your hands to a malicious sun that enjoys creating age or brown spots wherever it can. Younger skin won't experience the brown spots I'm talking about--these brown spots only appear when the healing power of the skin goes a little haywire, between the ages of 30 and 40. Hiding brown spots on the face is simple with concealer, powder and foundation-not a recipe for pretty hand skin.
So how do you hide brown spots on the hands? Start by protecting the hands from those brown spot-inducing UVA and UVB rays. Make it a practice to wear sunscreen anytime you step outside, even for a quick trot to the end of the driveway. It only takes seconds to damage skin.
Hide brown spots by using a tinted body moisturizer daily. Go for the trifecta and buy a tinted body moisturizer with sunscreen. Use in on the hands and arms, but avoid elbows.
Tan the top of your hands with a self-tanning lotion. Choose a shade only slight darker than your skin. Avoid getting the lotion on the palm of your hands and rinse tanning products from between your fingers. This will hide the brown spots but use caution. Too much of a good thing will draw attention for other reasons.
Give yourself a chemical peel. There are many pharmacy and department store products that help women hide brown spots on the hands. Chemical peel products burn away top layers of the skin, removing some of the brown skin. It may take several applications and do expect some temporary redness or swelling.
Wear stylish gloves. Nothing says you can't wear pretty gloves. Set a trend by pairing a little black dress with delicate black lace gloves. A pair of white gloves looks lovely with a floral summer dress and hat.
Try microdermabrasion. This at-home procedure is a bit easier on the skin than a chemical peel and you'll get fast results. Dampen the hands with warm water, then coat the top of the hands with petroleum jelly. Use a fine shower scrub and rub it into the skin, sloughing away uneven spots. It will take several treatments over several months but it is worth it!
