Hiding in Hip-Hop Book Excerpts Hot in Search
Terrance Dean's New Hip-hop Memoir to Expose Rappers on the Down-low
Written by former MTV producer Terrance Dean, Hiding in Hip-Hop has already lit up the internet -- no doubt with hot searches for sample chapters and excerpts from the memoir.
Already author of spiritually fluffy-sounding books Be Empowered: 30 Days of Meditation for Men of Color and Reclaim Your Power!: A 30-Day Guide to Hope, Healing, and Inspiration for Men of Color, Terrance Dean sold Hiding in Hip-Hop: Confessions of a Down Low Brother in the Entertainment Industry to Atria recently.
A Publishers Marketplace report titled "Publishers Lunch Deluxe: Lunch Weekly for Monday, January 29" gave this description of Terrance Dean's book deal:
"Terrance Dean's HIDING IN HIP-HOP: Confessions of a Down Low Brother in the Entertainment Industry, detailing the author's life as a closeted homosexual working in the film and music industry and his relationships with other closeted homosexuals -- film stars, rap artists, and music producers, to Krishan Trotman at Atria at auction by Karen E. Quinones Miller of Liza Dawson Associates. "
After the Hiding in Hip-Hop deal was officially announced, the net has exploded with folks hot on the trail for the names of those undercover famous people included in Dean's tell-all.
However, reports claim that Terrance Dean will not actually tell all in Hiding in Hip-Hop, and that Dean will not name names in his book, unlike his female predecessors, Karrine Steffans and Carmen Bryan.
Yet an Atria spokesperson has reportedly claimed that the real-life personas of down-low men that Dean describes in Hiding in Hip-Hop will be easy to decipher.
"Let's put it this way: You'll know who they are," she said, according to various online sources.
"It's a no-holds-barred look at Hollywood and hip-hop and who's living on the down-low."
And it hasn't stopped hip-hop heads from guessing and speculating all over the blogosphere, not only about which men will reportedly be included in Hiding in Hip-Hop, but women as well.
And it didn't stop this reporter from contacting Terrance Dean directly by email, requesting book excerpts or sample chapters from Hiding in Hip-Hop.
As soon as I receive a preview galley, sample chapters or book excerpts from Hiding in Hip-Hop, you'll be the first to know.

Post a CommentI mean really who cares? One thing about it these ppl are still going to be rich! We all have skeletons and secrets. There is only one judge...GOD!
I thought that Jazz was Boris Kodjoe. He is the guy who played in one of Tyler Perry's movies (family reunion) Remember he was drawing a picture in a jazz nightclub to homegirl reciting one of her poems.
I just finished reading this book and I was somewhat shocked. I am familiar with the downlow lifestyle and I already had some suspects in mind.
Eli is LL Cool J. He is described as fine. LL did have a clothing line and helped with F.U.B.U. Can't be 50 cent or Master P. 50 Cent is not attractive except for his body! LOL. And yes I know that the author or some other men might find him attractive but come on.
Lucas is Will Smith and Kareem is Duane Martin. Lucas is described as being bankable and is a megastar. I remember the rumors about Will Smith and Jada. And I also remember the rumors about Duane and his wife which they both denied!
And I dont doubt that the author is lying. So either he had sex with these men or he witnessed them at these "down low" parties. So if you are on the down low and you see another celebrity there, chances are he likes "booty"!
Does anyone know who Cortez is? And some of the boy groups that consisted of four members?

I think this book is full of lies and this dude is simply tryin to get rich or die trying....by lyinn.........WHy would someone even attempt to put information like this out..TOO GET RICHH.. he took it too far with Bill cosbyy....come on now.lol...just because these maybe rappers actors, etc u wish u could have a romantic relationship with...doesnt mean thier gayyy or on the down lowww...gosssshhh
I've read 3/4 of the book so far, started yesterday, so far it sounds like any other biography; a bunch of self indulgent crap. "Oh look at me I had it so hard, I was pained and hurt and using sex to fill voids in my life blah blah blah." I'm reading it for the same reasons everybody else is, to see who's gay. That said, I've only been able to decipher a few. But I will say this, if you can get past all the "gay shit" as you idiots so graciously put it the book does provide some insight itno why cats live this way and you kind of feel for them in the sense that they have to go to such legnths to hide who they are. But alot of the revelations and insight into the culture isn't anything that hasn't been said or argued before. Though some of the people I did catch did surprise if you think about it ESPECIALLY AFTER READING SOME OF THIS BOOK IT SHOULDN'T BE THAT SHOCKING!!! NIGGAS KNEW THERE ARE GAY NIGGAS OUT THERE SO STOP ACTING SHOCKED AND IGNORANT.
Oh and just the facts... dude is HEAD ON about Russell Simmons. He hit on my ex-boyfriends boy, Gerald W. from Irvington and well...lets just say Gerald has been "contaiminated" with it due to be stuck down in Atlantic City and wanted to get back home so he gave a professional to money to come home...sad how little boys get sodomized in this world by grown a** adults. Thats what happened to Terrance in his book-by a NEIGHBOR!!
Jazz is B.C.-Bill Cosby
"You Make Me Wanna" was most definately on the charts in 96. The album was released in November of 96, which means that single was playing long before then.
Alot of what you all are saying is crazy. I think the bigger question you need to ask yourselves is why do you care? Why does it bother you? These are the lives these guys chose to live. That means that while you are so worried about the kids, you are not thinking about the women that are being lied to. The kids will be fine if the men tell the truth. Kids adjust alot easier than those of us that grew up with all of the stereotypes. If you are truly talented your sales should not falter. The majority of the money that is made off these records come from middle class white kids. Not the hood. And as for the man with a clothing company that had a young side kick; it could have been Russell Simmons. The young sidekick, pick one from Def Jam. In the 90's I was a freshman in college the black gear was cross colors, then Fubu. Hot artists were Dre, 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Mase, Naughty By Nature, Onyx, The Lost Boyz, Wu Tang Clan, and Redman. BTW Usher was on the scene in the late 90's. "You Make
You can't hate on this dude, he's a oppertunest. He saw a oppertunity and he went for it. That's what seperates the sucessful from the unsucessful. How do you know he's lying about what he saying? We don't. Ask yourself this question, even if these bratha's are bi or gay do you look at their movies or listen to their music because you thought they were str8? Now don't get it swisted I'm not gay but think about that for a min. Oh and for the bratha that said most black people don't read, that's sad but true. There are a few of us that do read though...

P.S. Keep a look out for up and coming artist: TC, Lil Raspey and no they aren't gay........lol
