High Blood Pressure Natural Alternatives

High blood pressure can cause a series of complications leading to heart conditions and heart attacks. It is important to control blood pressure and keep it close to or below 120/80 which is considered a normal blood pressure. There are no studies to verify the effectiveness of herbal remedies in the control of high blood pressure.

However there are good natural remedies that can be used as primary or supplementary therapy to normalize blood pressure. The two most commonly used herbal remedies for blood pressure is garlic and hawthorn. Both have been recommended and administered by naturopaths and practitioners of alternative medicine for many years to control blood pressure and stimulate the proper functioning of the circulatory system.

Some doctors endorse the use of these alternative medicines to treat blood pressure, but not all. Natural remedies have been used for many years in Europe and now is more accepted and used in traditional medicine in the United States. Doctors recommend that patients with high blood pressure consume three to four cloves of garlic per day. The ingredient responsible for lowering blood pressure is alicin. While some people refuse to use it because of the strong smell, however, garlic supplements are a great alternative to benefit from its therapeutic effect. These supplements in tablet form are available at natural products stores. The tablets with enteric coating are recommended which prevents irritation of the stomach.

The hawthorn is an alternative to lower blood pressure. The hawthorn is more effective when taken in conjunction with vitamin C. These two substances help dilate blood vessels which causes blood pressure to stabilize. When the individual's blood pressure reaches 140/159 this is classified as a mild to moderate hypertension.

If garlic, hawthorn and vitamin C have no effect can be treated with a natural remedy of calcium and magnesium. The natural ability of calcium to lower blood pressure has become known by several studies. Calcium by itself has no effect. But administered in conjunction with magnesium unemployment greater elasticity in the walls of blood vessels and relax the muscles involved in movement.

Magnesium also increases the effectiveness of other minerals in the body. Another option for lowering the blood pressure is the coenzyme Q10 that helps maintain a healthy circulatory system.
