High Impact an American Nightmare

Let me begin by saying that I am not claiming to see into the future, the dates and times of these events are merely a whim of the author. I have used a couple of names of real people holding real offices, however, it is not my intent to defame or embarrass anyone. If they are offended, I apologize in advance, this is merely the same kind of paper written by analyst inside the C.I.A. with the exception that I am not an analyst, merely a student of history. The events in themselves were chosen for their possible impact on the countries involved. The C.I.A has been surprised by more than one "Low Probability, High Impact Event". These events are not only possible, but probable, God help us all if just one of these "events" takes place. One last note, if you are paranoid about the state of the world, do not read any further.

EVENT NUMBER ONE
It was a crisp clear day much like the day nine years earlier, the date, September the Eleventh, Two Thousand and Ten. Being a Saturday, most of the office workers were out of the city enjoying the beautiful weekend before the onslaught of winter set in. Survivors and families of the fallen were outside the "Freedom Tower" having their ninth annual memorial. The Freedom Tower has reached one third of it's completion height. Steel, glass and concrete rising out of the ground in defiance of the violence perpetrated nine years earlier.

At 8:45 a.m. the memorial was to begin, as the people at "Ground Zero" bowed their heads in prayer, a bright flash of light burnt through their closed eye lids. Luckily for the mourners they were disintegrated before they had even registered the flash. The investigation that followed found that the device was in the Shearwater, a boat docked alongside Battery Park. The explosion was estimated to be the result of a 20 kiloton nuclear bomb.

In a strange parallel to the first nine-eleven, news reports went out within the hour implicating five Americans who were supposedly backed by Saudi Arabia. The image that was broadcast around the world was of a twisted, melted hulk that was the Statue of Liberty, an image that America would use to overthrow the "House of Saud". Conspiracy theorists worked overtime calling the event another "false flag" operation. The size of the explosion took out most of Long Island, Jersey City, Brooklyn and parts of Newark.

With Wall Street gone and 95 south destroyed, the American economy nose dived. Riots rocked the nation, food shortages in New England led to mass mayhem. Families fought families for basic staples, damage to the nations power grid multiplied the problems. It would be years before life returned to some since of normalcy, millions upon millions of Americans died, not just from the initial blast, but from the residual effects. It truly was a nightmare.......

EVENT NUMBER TWO
Thursday, December the Sixteenth in Jerusalem was festive as far as Shia Muslims were concerned. If you consider self flagellation festive, the Shia Muslims were celebrating Ashura. At ten minutes after ten in the morning a improvised explosive device completely destroyed the Dome of the Rock, blowing pieces of the Mosque all over the Temple Mount. Hundreds of Jews were injured as they prepared to pray at the Wailing Wall. Hundreds if not thousands of Muslims were maimed or killed by the blast. Israeli authorities immediately shut down all highways and closed all access points in and out of Israel.

The Palestinians were on Al-Jazeera within minutes blaming the Israelis for the blast. By twelve noon, the Palestinian community had started to attack the "Apartheid Wall". Around one in the afternoon what had started as a skirmish was looking to Israel like a full scale attack. Syria and Jordan sent in tanks and artillery from the west, Lebanon attacked from the north. Egypt put ten divisions on it's border for what they called, "a mere precaution". Within three days of the bombing, Egypt began to cross into Gaza, it was believed that the Muslims had told Egypt that if they didn't do their part in the war, their country would be the next to fall.

Four days after the bombing, Israel launched three nuclear missiles. Syria lost Palmyra, Jordan lost Amman and Iran lost Tehran. Within ten minutes of the launch, Iran retaliated with two nukes of its own, five minutes after they were launched, Israel lost Tel-Aviv and Hafia. For the next three days, no more nukes were set loose on the world. In another coincidence of history, seven days after the bombing, Israel conceded defeat. The terms of which allowed Israel six months to evacuate their population. What started out as a proud country of seven million, fewer than three million were alive to leave their home of the last sixty-two years.

What seemed like a slap in the face to the Jewish people, Europe closed its doors to the refugees. America was obliged to take on the entire population of Israel. Congress sat on their hands as they refused to participate in what the Muslims were calling the "Real Seven Days War". However once the war was decisive, Congress quickly passed legislation allowing the newest members of America concessions that caused riots throughout the U.S. The legislation gave the Israelis one third of Florida, drawing a line from Sarasota across to Port St. Lucia, everything south of the line was to be the new Israel. Within a month the city of Hialeah was chosen to be the new Jerusalem.

The people from South Florida were displaced as they were obliged to sell their property to any Israeli who wanted it. The new law allowed them to buy any property they desired for the value placed by the last tax receipts. The owners of the property had no choice, to refuse to sale was an immediate jail sentence as your property was then sold for half of the assessed value. Riots were quickly put down by the new Israeli National Guard. In a surprise move, the new Israel started building a new Apartheid wall across Florida. The men behind the curtain really didn't mind, to their assessment, most of the property of New Israel would be under water within a matter of five years.

Even though the United States Congress refused to participate in the "Real Seven Days War", Iran, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt all declared war on the U.S. because they took in the Israelis. Congress didn't bother to declare war against the "Ashura Alliance". A state of war between them lasted for years without any hostilities from either side, the main goal of the Ashura Alliance had been achieved once Israel was taken.....

EVENT NUMBER THREE
August the Sixth, Two Thousand and Eleven, the city of Hiroshima was holding their annual memorial of the bombing sixty-six years earlier. The memorial which had started as a solemn occasion had morphed into a somewhat festive event. The citizens celebrated their accomplishments of rebuilding their great city. Officials at Kadena Air Force Base in Japan watched as North Korea launched a "test missile". There was less than three minutes to warn the city once they figured out that the missile was headed for southern Japan.

The base commander Colonel Kenneth S. Wilbach was alerted, to his mind, it was inconceivable that North Korea would attack Japan. He had his forces stand down as he assumed that the missile had merely went astray and posed no real threat to Japan. The commander's orders were barely out of his mouth when the bases instruments confirmed a nuclear blast. Colonel Wilbach picked up his red line to Washington as he watched the missile detection system show launch after launch of missiles from all over North Korea and from submarines in the Pacific.

The Colonel dropped the phone, they ran for the bunker as the fifty kiloton missile honed in on its target. The largest part of his command made it to the bunker as the blast hit Okinawa. The commanders were thrown to the ground as the world seemed to literally bend in around him. He thought of his wife and kids as he started to order his thoughts, he was in charge of the 18th wing, the Air Forces Largest Combat wing. He wondered if he had any planes left, although he knew that if they were to counter attack, he needed more information. His mind went back to his family, they must all be gone, nothing near the base could have survived the blast, however, he still held to hope that maybe they had survived, maybe they were outside the blast radius. He had to believe that they were still alive, otherwise what was there to live for.

The red lines to Washington were overwhelmed, it was over thirty minutes before the Colonel got through. He knew that as quickly as the attack began and the fact that the missile that took out his base had come from a sub, China must have been involved. That was completely conjecture, he needed more intel. The word from Washington was for him to stay buttoned down as they would try to recover his remaining command from the charred island. The Navy's Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Robert F. Willard had already retaliated, within minutes, the entire country of North Korea would be a smoldering cinder.

Three days after the initial attack, Colonel Wilbach and the remainder of his command were evacuated. They were told that missiles from North Korea had been launched against Hawaii. Those missiles had been shot down by the flying laser which happened to be testing over Guam, of all places. Japan had taken the brunt of the attack, Hiroshima, the first city to be nuked was gone. Tokyo, Akita, Toyama, Nagoya, Osaka, Saga, Kumatoto and Nakagami were gone. Initial estimates put the death toll at over eighty million souls, about two-thirds of the entire population of Japan.

China reputed claims that they had helped North Korea with the attacks. Inspectors from the United States found that the uranium used in the bombs could be traced to reactors in China. This caused Susan Rice, America's envoy to the U.N. to lodge an official complaint with the United Nations. This complaint was more or less overlooked by the world as Europe, Asia and the former Soviet states longed for the downfall of American imperialism. Miss Rice begged for sanctions to be placed against China, they were like a child screaming in a hurricane, nobody heard a thing.

China in an act of defiance dumped it's billions of American treasury bonds onto the open market causing the U.S. dollar to fall so rapidly that prices in American stores went up by the hour. A cup of coffee in the morning cost $2.50, by lunch it was $7.95, by dinner, the same cup of coffee was $36.27. Due to the rapid drop in the value of the dollar, foreign nations around the world traded their American dollars for Euros. Four weeks after the destruction of Japan, the United States of America was reduced to begging for loans. As a consequence, the British pound, the Canadian dollar and the Mexican peso followed the dollar into the trash heap of history.

In an effort to save the economy of the western world, America sold its bases in Guam, Afghanistan and in the Middle East to the Russians for four trillion euros. They also sold off all of the gold in Fort Knox for euros. Within three months Britain, America, Canada and Mexico had revamped their currency and started issuing Ameros. One amero could be bought for twenty American dollars, fifteen British pounds, thirty-two Canadian dollars and worst of all one hundred and eighty pesos. It would be fifty years before the American economy returned to the post war rates. Japan, burned and toxic was soon occupied by China as was South Korea.......

EVENT NUMBER FOUR
Americans were finally at ease after ten years of fighting "terrorism". It is July the Fourth in the year Two Thousand and Eleven. Most of the troops have been withdrawn from Iraq, with the exception of the Iraqi Governments puppet masters who still reside in the "International Zone" formally known as the "Green Zone".
In Afghanistan, the Tali-ban have been pushed back into the mountains and are barely capable of harassing our troops there. Pakistan has been stabilized with secret bases containing forty thousand international troops, most of which are American.

July the Fourth had went off without a hitch as day turned to night, children all over the country are excitedly waiting for it to get dark enough to set of fireworks. The lakes all over the country are filled to capacity as boaters lay back to enjoy the coolness of the evening air. Unknown to them, twenty five pontoon boats carrying Al-Quida operatives quietly worked their way to the dams that hold back most of America's drinking water. By nine-thirty pacific time the fireworks in the eastern part of the U.S had started to fade as the west was just getting started.

At precisely nine forty five pacific time, twenty boats with over forty operatives have taken their pontoon boats next to the greatest dams in the United States. Bombs made of diesel fuel, fertilizer and dynamite, each with the same explosive power as five thousand pounds of dynamite exploded. The bombs had been suspended on ropes from the pontoon boats, the length of which had been calculated to be two thirds of the height of the dam to be destroyed.

On the Colorado River, at the line between the states of Nevada and Arizona, stands the Hoover Dam. The guards who watch over the dam had saw the boat drifting toward the dam. The couple on the boat looked bewildered as if they had lost power. The guards called for a Nevada Department of Wildlife boat to pull the couple to safety, about the time that the N.D.W. boat rounded the corner, a deep roar was heard. The dam began to tremble, operators inside the dam heard the concussion, they futily ran for the exits, few made it out. Cracks started to form in the thinest part of the dam where the turbines whirled, within four minutes after the blast, the pontoon boat went through a massive crack in the dam, it would never be found. Within twenty minutes Lake Mead was rushing down-river in a torrent that would wipe away everything below it.

This scene was repeated at over twenty dams throughout the United States. Whoever had planned the operation had studied the water supplies for the U.S. very carefully. Two thirds of the population would be without running water for up to two years. The National Guard in every state was put on active duty. The reservoirs that remained were guarded around the clock with patrols around every inch of every lake. Boating was strictly forbidden except on the Great Lakes. Every tanker truck in the U.S. was appropriated by the government, Lake Michigan was designated as America's water supply. The price of water in the west was thirty-five dollars a gallon on the black market. Swimming pools were guarded like gold by their owners.

Emergency desalination plants were built within weeks of the disaster, but it would be years before what had been taken for granted earlier, would be replaced. Most of the dams had to be completely demolished before they could be rebuilt. Environmentalist tried to stop the rebuilding of most of the dams, causing several of their leaders to be assassinated. Riots of unprecedented proportions were put down with less than lethal weapons. Out of the disaster a new political party (The New American Party) rose up and took over one third of the seats in the house and every seat in the senate that was up for grab in the next election.

In the end, it was estimated that over two million people were killed in the initial attack, another six million were killed in the water wars and riots that lasted for fifteen months after the attack. It was decided that Al-Quida was responsible, after that day, Muslims, Indians and anyone who even looked like they could be from the Middle East were beaten and even killed by mobs of angry Americans. Eventually the government put them in camps in North Dakota for their own safety. Even there, many were killed by disputes inside the camps between different sects blaming each other for their plight.

America cranked up the pressure, they took Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran within fifty days of the attacks. They also kicked the U.N out of North America and withdrew their charter. The U.N. ended up in Sweden, a neutral country. The U.N.'s power wasn't half of what it was, Russia tried to fund the great endeavor as a grab for power, but soon found that the money flowed through the U.N like water through a broken dam.......
