High Risk Driving Under High Tech Incompetence

There is a class of individuals claiming to be human beings who travel by road in large gas guzzling vehicles at speeds exceeding the permissible limits .They think the road belongs to them. Others particularly pedestrians are treated like earth worms and they have to find their way crawling through space, if any, left between vehicles when they stop for a while for signals. Pedestrian crossings or zebra lines are absent in most cases for zebras are seen only in zoos and lines only on their palms. These reckless master drivers think pedestrians need not cross the road. Rules are alien to them. They set examples for others who own smaller vehicles.

When pedestrians struggle hard to walk along the road their woes multiply and are prolonged by the reckless driving of two wheelers and three wheelers who enjoy freedom to travel in any direction, along any narrow path which they created by spreading terror by noise and deafening sound. They violate all traffic rules. The speed of such vehicles gives them the feeling that they are overtaking supersonic jets. Remember, all these happen on roads which are ribbon like and which have rarely been widened. If at all widened they have gained an extra two feet but the lamp posts earlier situated on the edge of the road now occupy the centre after widening. They are not removed and they await the blessings of a visiting VIP for their liberation. The poor pedestrian dances to the tune of these murderous vehicles and stand the risk of losing his limbs and life.

All these happen right in front of the protector of law, the cop who is a mute witness.He is not to be blamed, for he is helpless. No one follows his instructions or signals. He moves his hands in different directions where there are no traffic lights and people take him for a ride. He is considered a standing witness to the glaring inefficiency in transport management. He alone is not responsible for the situation. His bosses who travel by several roads several times keep their eyes closed as if in meditation though it is in reality 'pre-office sleep', a blessing and perquisite they enjoy.

The saviors of law are meticulous about two things. One is they wake up on the first of every month because that is the salary day. Their reservoir of stupidity manifests and supplements this scrupulously by levying penalty on drivers who do not wear seat belts. Of course they make a unique contribution, probably the only contribution that is, the contribution to the provident fund. They are totally oblivious of the events happening around them. They undoubtedly belong to the category of managers -those who are not aware of what is happening. But they become alert and agile when there clear prospects of unauthorised revenue collections arise. They practice high tech incompetence. Together with many others of their clan they develop universal high tech incompetence. This is the like developing a universal mind. But pedestrians and law abiding citizens suffer their tolerance of high risk driving. Many lives are lost in automobile accidents. How long will this continue. Are we to wait for a Tsunami to cure such evils! Only God alone can say!
