High School Drama

Elizabeth woke up early that morning. Running her right hand through her hair, she removed it from her face feeling somewhat refreshed and almost new from the night's sleep. It brought a simple smile on her face as she got up and headed to the shower. Of course, it struck her had she got dressed why she was up in the first place, school. School, was most certainly not her favorite thing, actually she hated it. The teachers were annoying and bored, her classes were not fun, and student life was plain. It wasn't that she didn't have any friends, she was one of the most popular girls in school, of course she usually just hung out with her three best friends; Rose, Evan, and Sandy, but we'll get to them later. She also had some enemies, though she didn't make them known to the public.
Returning to the bathroom she brushed out her long wavy golden hair. She placed it up in a messy bun. Brushing her teeth her brother opened the door and entered sitting on the floor waiting. He did this when he felt she was taking up too much time and when he wanted to take his shower.
"You know, you could knock! You don't know what I am doing in here," She mentioned to him as she left slamming the door. She only heard him moan as she headed into the kitchen.
Looking around she found nothing satisfying so she grabbed her car keys and left. On her way to school, since she was the only one with a car that could be driven to school, she picked up her best friends. Sandy only being five minutes from her house was picked up first. Sandy was most certainly the most athletic of them all, however they all did sports. Sandy being 6'1" and has great skills has a basketball player was placed on the varsity team her freshmen year for the last two years has been captain. Sandy was also a very pretty girl. She always had guys hanging over her. Elizabeth wished that she could have that power. Evan and Rose were neighbors; they were also going out. Jennifer thought they had a romantic story to them, Rose fell in love with the boy next door. It was cute. They were always together and never fought. Evan was about 5'10" and Rose was 5'4" and stopped growing in the 8th grade. Out of them all, Rose was the shortest. Not a lot of people were short at school. So Rose didn't mind. It set her out from others. Elizabeth loved watching Evan and Rose together, she dreamed of a relationship like that. Of course, Elizabeth didn't have the confidence to really let herself dream for that long. She could see outside the box, but she knew what was in it. She saw the obvious and predicted the right. Her friends chatted all the way to school. Mostly about school, which bored Liz.
"So what do you have today Liz?" asked Sandy.
"Study, Physics, Chorus, and Trig," Liz spoke, with a soft sigh.
"I have gym, Chem, English, and Trig," stated Evan. Not that he was asked, he was just reminding himself. "And track practice after school, Liz you do too, right?"
"Yeah, you need a right home?" She asked glancing in the mirror to see him nod his head.
"That reminds me, did we have any English and Trig homework?" Rose chirped as she leaned against Evan, still looking a bit tired.
"Umm, yeah Problems 1-40 and nothing for English," Evan said.
"Good, I didn't want to do all that work for nothing," Rose said with a smiled. The three of them continued on with new conversations while Liz drove silently to school. Driving into school she glanced out the window at the three-floor building. It was her lift for the past four years and now she only had three months left. She parked, turning the car off and popping the trunk. Putting on a grim smile, she turned and looked at them all.
"Look guys! Here we are at your favorite place in the world! Wow, watch the time go right out the window," She then jumped out of her car as if she was excited. The rest of them following with small giggles.
"I don't understand why you hate it so much," Rose exclaimed. "You have great grades, you see all your friends..."
"And unfortunately, those who aren't," Liz hissed. She grabbed Evan's bag and tossed it to him. Ever since she has been driving to school he has never gotten his bag out of her trunk. She then picked up her own and slid it on her back.
"Well, here's a thought for you. You can see that special guy your always thinking about," Rose smiled as she referred to Liz's crush. The one that no one knew about. Liz cringed as Rose mentioned it with Evan and Sandy there.
"Wait, Liz you have a crush on someone?" Evan asked in surprise.
"Woah, Liz never has crush's. Did we crash or something?" Sandy laughed and pinched herself, "Nope, I'm still alive. This must be serious! Who is he?"
"No one, Rose is mistaken, I don't have a crush on anyone!" Liz yelped. Her eyes darted at Rose, she hoped to send a cold chill down Rose's back. Rose, however, was not feeling this chill.
"It's Thomas!" Rose exclaimed with happiness and glee. Liz was shocked, and then a look of death over took her face. Rose giggled and hid behind Evan quickly. "Don't hurt the small, I couldn't keep your secret love inside anymore!"
"You like Thomas!" Evan shouted in astonishment.
"Want to say that a little louder, I don't think the whole world hear you!" Liz shouted.
"You of all people? I would have never guessed he was your type," Sandy said. "You should ask him out!"
"Ha!" Liz let out, "That's funny! Me ask out a guy who doesn't like me. If you all weren't so blind you'd know that too, and you'd know who he liked." She ended that sentence looking at Sandy. Liz knew Sandy was the star in Thomas's eyes. She could tell from the first time she saw him place his eyes on her. Thomas was on the football, basketball, baseball, and track team. He was that All-American boy, everyone wanted as a son and all the guys wanted to be. He was well built, with short dark hair and carried himself very well. He was also very smart. He was in the top ten of the class, like them. Plus, everyone loved him.
They all entered school and the first person they saw was Thomas. It looked as though he was heading over to them. They all went "oooo" and made googley eyes, which stopped quickly, for Liz struck them all in the stomach with the back of her hand.
"Hey guys!" Thomas said as he approached them. "What's new?"
"Well, I just found out something, but I guess it was pretty old, huh Liz?" Evan said with a slight smirk to her. She pinched him in his side and looked to Thomas.
"Not much is new," She stated.
"Oh Liz, where's our study this morning?" Thomas asked.
"Cafe, I believe," She replied.
"Sweet," he smiled.
"Yeah I guess so..." Her lips curved into a small smile as thought she was in heaven talking with him.
"So Thomas," Sandy spoke, butting in on her thoughts, "Who do you like?" Sandy winked to Liz with a slight nudge.
"I don't think that's very appropriate to ask him that!" Liz grumbled in a slightly stern voice glaring at Sandy.
"Actually, I do like something," Thomas stated. Liz started to move onto her locker when Thomas grabbed her arm softly to stop her. "Hey, I really need to ask you something in study, so don't let me forget!"
"Umm...sure thing," Liz muttered. She left the lobby and went to her locker. Once she has opened it Sandy was at her side.
"Did you hear that?" Sandy asked with a hopeful voice.
"Hear what?" Liz glanced around at people talking as if she as no clue to what Sandy was referring to.
"He said," then she tried to imitate Thomas by deepening her voice. "I have to ask you something."
"Most likely wants to know if you are interested in him," Liz muttered softly to Sandy. "So why don't you tell me yes or no now so I don't have to ask later."
"Yeah right!" Sandy shouted. "Come on, he is so into you. I saw him checking you out as you walked by him."
"Sure," Liz mumbled glancing to her watch. "Look you have to get to your class, and so do I. So I'll talk to you later."
"Are you ok?" Sandy asked with concern straining her voice.
Liz rolled her eyes, "Yeah I'm fine." She put on a goofy smile, and looked to Sandy, "Why wouldn't I be? I mean you could totally be right." She then patted Sandy on the back and skipped down the hall towards her study. Sandy smirked and left in the opposite direction feeling that Liz was fine. As Liz rounded the corner, her skip and smile faded and she walked into the cafeteria. Glancing around she moved to her regular study table and sat down. Thomas and a group of his friends soon joined her. Liz took out some work she knew she wouldn't finish, but at least would have started by the end of the study.
"So, what did you want?" Liz said as she looked to Thomas and poked him with her pencil so he knew she was speaking to him.
"Huh? Oh, umm...one minute," He said. Liz started to work on her project. About fifteen minutes later Thomas tapped her shoulder. She looked up and all his friends were gone. She glanced to him with a raised eyebrow in question.
"Damn! How do you do that?" He began to try to lift one eyebrow. Liz shrugged and laughed at him. He was doing a horrible job.
"So, you had a question for me?" Liz asked after he stopped trying.
"Yeah," Thomas smiled slightly uncomfortable and not good at hiding it. "Your pretty good friends with Sandy, right?"
"I knew it!" Liz smirked. "You have like her, don't you?"
"Uh...yeah, I guess I do," He smiled embarrassed. "How'd you know? Was I that obvious?"
"Internal notion and no," She said answering him. Internal, yeah right, everyone liked that girl, she thought.
"Do you think she likes me?" He asked.
"I don't know, " Liz said. Her eyes shifted back down to her work already knowing what was next.
"Do you think you could find out if she'd be interested?" He was looking at her pleadingly. Liz made the mistake of looking up. His face looked like one of an innocent child. She was trapped in it.
"Umm...sure," She said putting her things away and getting up. "But I'm not making any promises.
"Great! I'll talk to you in chorus then!" He smiled again as the bell rang. Liz headed out for her next class. Making her way down the hall Sandy came up to her.
"So?" She asked.
"I'll give you the scoop in Physics," Liz said as she stopped at her locker getting out a book. Noticing a rather large crowd of girls approaching she added, "Unless you find out sooner. Sandy nodded with slight confusion. Sandy opened her mouth about to say something when a swarm of her basketball friends ran up to her excited at the news they just heard. Liz quickly left the scene already knowing word was out. Tom liked Sandy. As she entered Physics Rose was waiting for her.
"Did you know this is the only class Evan and I don't have together?" Rose spoke in a timid yet sincere voice.
"So, you've heard?" Liz said with a small smile. "It figures, I had to fall."
"What to lose it all? How are you?" Rose asked.
"I'm fine," Liz nodded. "I mean it's not like I haven't known. You know what, it doesn't even matter."
"Yeah, I guess it's what you've been saying," Rose said, "but now you've heard it, and first hand, that's gotta hurt?"
"Nope," Liz then took a seat in the back near a window. Sandy entered the class in astonishment and then concern covered her face as her eyes shifted over to Jen.
"Hey Liz," Sandy said as she sat down in front of Liz so they could talk.
"Hey, "Liz yawned. "So, do you like him?"
"I don't know..." She replied.
"It's perfectly fine if you do," Liz muttered. "Actually, he wanted to know if you were interested in him. I say go hang out with him or something. Don't want to rush into anything." Before Sandy could reply, the teacher walked in. Every child's worst fear in school shot out, like a bullet from a gun, from his mouth. "Pop Quiz." But today Liz didn't mind it so much. For the rest of class time the entire room was silent, everyone nervously filled out the five-page quiz on the homework from the past three days. Liz finished her quiz before the rest of the class. She found it pretty easy, since she actually understood the homework. Returning to her desk and sitting down after she handed in the quiz, she rested her head on her arms and doodled lightly on a blank piece of paper till class was over.
"Lunch," Jumped from her mouth as the bell rang.
"Me too!" Sandy said jumping up from her seat. "Great, now we can really chat!"
"Great," Liz mumbled, "Can't wait. I just have to drop my bag off in the Music classroom." They left the room and headed down the hall into the classroom. Liz dropped her bags and pulled out some money heading to the cafeteria. As they paid for their lunched they sat at an empty table. "So..." Liz was waiting for Sandy to say something.
"Are you sure you'd be ok if I actually did like him?" Sandy questioned.
"I'd be fine," She grumbled. How many times would she have to say that to convince herself, she wondered. She was doing a pretty good job convincing Sandy. As she took a bite of her food, she felt a soft tap on her should. Turning, she saw it was Thomas.
"Hey guys, this seat taken?" He asked pointing to the one beside Liz's.
"Umm...No, but take my seat, I feel like eating outside," Her seat was next to Sandy. Liz got up, took the rest of her food, and walked outside and sat on the grass leaning up against a rather large rock. She ate silently, her eyes glancing around from time to time. When she finished, and threw out her trash, she went inside and back to her class with five minutes to sit around and possible sleep. She had known that Sandy would get up and follow her outside and invite Thomas. She might feel bad later but she was going to stay put. Grabbing her music folder she sat down on the raisers at her regular spot.
"Hey Liz, was the weather ok?" She heard Thomas ask.
"Splendid," She smirked as she turned towards him. She watched him grab his music folder and sit next to her. "Did you have a nice lunch with Sandy?"
"I learned that we have at least one thing in common," He smirked, "We are both extremely shy or very unconversational."
"That's surprising..." Not really, Sandy always did that around guys she liked, Liz thought.
"Did you find anything out?" Thomas asked.
"Umm..." Well she could lie or tell the truth. What should she do? Liz was about to ponder that question during the entire class time for the music director was now calling for everyone's attention. Chorus seemed to go by really quickly. At the end of class Thomas raced up to her.
"We can talk on the way to Trig," Thomas smiled; he was way too excited about this.
"Ok, well I think she's interested, "Liz muttered as she slipped on her backpack. "She didn't give me a defiant answer." They slipped into the crowded hallway.
"But you think I have a chance?" He was praying for a yes. Liz sighed looking at him. He barely knew Sandy; all he liked her for was her athletic ability and looks.
"I guess, but you should really hang out with her," She sighed again. "That's the only real way I can find out for sure."
"I think that can be arranged, "Thomas smiled. "I'm have a party tonight and you, Sandy, Rose, and Evan are all coming!"
"I don't know, I have tons of work to do," She mumbled softly.
"What? No you don't! And if you do, you can do it Sunday!" Thomas grumbled. "All you have today after school is track and after you can pick everyone up and head over to my house."
"How do you know what I'm doing?" Liz interrogated. "How do you know what I have to do won't take all weekend?"
"I know, cause I'm special like that, "Thomas stated with a smile and they entered the classroom he said very loudly, "I will see you tonight then!" Grumbling Liz sat next to Rose, Evan and Sandy.
"What was that about?" Rose asked.
"Thomas has invited all of us to a party tonight at his house!" Liz smiled, trying to sound excited.
"Oh that's great!" Sandy said. "That's the perfect chance for me and Thomas to talk!"
"Did I miss something?" Evan whispered to Rose.
"Yeah, a lot, "Rose sighed. "I'll tell you later, class is starting." But instead, Rose took out a piece of paper while Mr. Straggler was going over the homework. As she finished, she tossed it over to Evan. He only had the chance to read the first line before Mr. Straggler snatched it away. Rose looked horrified. The last time he had done that, after reading it to himself, he read it to the class. Mr. Straggler read it to himself, as he continued to talk about the homework. He then pocketed the note. At the end of class before Liz and Rose were able to leave, he called them both over to his desk in the back of the room.
"Now I know Liz, this note was not to you, but it concerns you," He said in his stern voice. "Rose, I don't think it's appropriate to write notes at all, specially about such good friends. Let's not have it happen again."
"Yes sir, " They both said. They started to head out.
"Oh and Liz," he waited for her to return to his desk.
"Yes?" Liz asked.
"If you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to stop by," He smiled and returned to his work.
"Umm...sure. Thanks for the offer, sir." She was almost racing out the door to get away from him. Rose was waiting for her.
"What was that about?" Rose asked.
"Freaky teachers wanting to lend a hand in student problems, "Liz laughed. "Oh man, I can't believe he knows my situation." Liz groaned.
"Sorry, I was just trying to fill in Evan," Rose uttered.
"It's ok, "She replied, "I can do that at rack practice." Turning the corner Jen saw Evan at the end of the hallway talking with Thomas, "Or I might not have to. Next he's going to ask to talk with you about Sandy, Rose."
"I'll tell him Sandy's not interested, she is just trying to be nice," She stated strongly. "Then I'll tell him Liz is a nice, beautiful girl!"
"No you won't," Liz smirked. "You'll tell him the truth because that's who you are." As they reached the guys Rose and Thomas took off in one direction and Evan and Jen in another.
"So he likes Sandy?" Evan finally let out after five minutes of silence.
"Yeah," Liz let out with a sigh.
"Sorry." Evan said a couple of minutes later. They reached the girl's locker room and Evan gave Liz a quick hug before trailing off to the boy's locker room. Entering the girl's room, Liz could already hear them all gossiping about Sandy and Thomas. How annoying. Liz took her time changing. After everyone left Sandy walked back in searching for Liz. She sat down and waited for her.
"We don't have to go tonight," Sandy finally said.
"Were going!" Liz grumbled. "It might be fun."
"Really?" Sandy asked, slight excitement in her voice.
"Look, I can tell you like him, and he likes you." She said. Turning, she noticed Sandy looking slightly bummed. "Come on, me and him don't even look like we could made a cute couple together! I'm totally over it!" Liz was sounding extremely convincing, for someone lying through her teeth.
"Liz, you're the best!" Sandy shouted jumping up and giving her a hug. It seemed more like a bear hug.
"Oxygen, "Liz struggled to get out. Sandy let go laughing and they ran out of the locker room and own to the track field. After arriving, Sandy began to job around the track. Liz skipped over to the discus area. Picking up a discus she threw it into the air. She watched it spin, she could only guess two feet farther than she usually throws. For two hours she threw the discus. After practice her arms were so sore, she could barely change. Leaving the locker room she tossed the car keys to Evan.
"You're driving to your house!" She walked past him.
"Sweet! I should get you pissed more often before track practices." He sneered. As soon as they arrived at Evan's house, Liz rolled into the driver's seat. She gave a wave as Evan entered his house and she drove home.
When she got into her house, no one was home. She smiled and made herself a bath and relaxed for about an hour. Then her brother came banging his head on the bathroom door.
"Hey Liz," He mumbles through the door. "I heard your taking your little brother to a party tonight. Especially if you don't want Mom and Dad to find out how the TV remote really got broken. I still have the bruises to prove it." She grumbled softly. After getting cleaned up she changed and jumped on her bed; Un able to take a nap though. The phone rang.
"Liz, Sandy's on the phone!" Her brother shouted.
"Hello?" Hearing her voice echo she grumbled. "Hang it up brat!" She heard the click of the phone and the echo was gone.
"Wow, you've gotten better at that!" Sandy said. Her voice was a little shaky over the phone. "You have to come over and help me find something to wear!"
"Call Rose," Liz muttered. "She's the expert on that!"
"I did, she's on her way, and so are you right?" Sandy pleaded.
"Yeah, but snot-face has to come too," She grumbled.
"Fine, he can hang with my little sister," Sandy said. "See ya in ten." She then hung up; Liz followed and hung up her telephone.
"We're leaving in five minutes!" She shouted out to her brother.
"What? Oh man! Alight hold on a second, "Her brother whined. For the next five minutes she listened to her brother run up and down the hallways of the house.
"Already? I'm leaving!" She got up and brushed her hair, then brushed her teeth. Grabbing her keys and purse, she wrote out a small note for her mother and father leaving it on the kitchen counter. She then walked over to the door, put some shoes on, and walked out the door and over to her car. As she started it up, her brother ran out of the door, raced to the car and jumped in. Liz drove to Sandy's house pulling into her driveway she parked and got out of the car.
"Hang with her sister till we are ready," Liz commanded. They walked in and Liz went straight to Sandy's room. Sandy looked like she was about to cry.
"I'm sorry, but it's true," Rose stated.
"What's true?" Liz asked as she pulled the door opened and entered the room only to shut the door behind herself.
"Are you upset with me Liz?" Sandy asked.
"No! Did I already go over this with you," Liz shook her head. "Come on now, let's find you something to wear. Rose this is your department." Liz never did find out what Rose had said to Sandy to make her want to cry. After they were all ready they piled into Liz's car. Her brother jumping in at last minute as well. Liz picked up Evan and they all headed over to Thomas's house in silence. Parking, she noticed they were just a bit early.
"We can go in or sit in the car till some other people come," Evan said.
"Let's go in," Liz's brother and Sandy said.
"Whatever, you guys go ring the door bell well be on our way, I just have to get something out of the trunk." Liz said. Sandy, followed by Liz's brother, jumped out of the car. Liz popped the trunk and got out. Evan and Rose followed her. They watched the other two enter the house, and they waved to Tom as he came to the door. Standing next to the empty trunk Liz sighed.
"All we have to do is stay for a couple of house, Sandy can get her own ride home," Rose mumbled.
"It's true, there are going to be plenty of people," Evan added.
"Yeah I guess, well when you two are ready to leave, let me know," Liz said slamming down the trunk. As they started walking to the door, about five more cars, packed completely rolled in. "Party is starting..." During the party Sandy and Thomas were never seen apart. Sometimes they weren't even seen at all. After a few hours, Rose and Evan came up to Liz.
"I think your brother is drunk," Rose said.
"Great, now I have to sneak him into the house," Liz grumbled. "What a great night."
"He can sleep at my house, remember my parents are gone for the week," Evan said. "Are you ready to leave? Wait, cross that out, We are ready to leave now." He smirked.
"Alright, let's go grab drunk for brains," Liz said. They wondered around the party for a little bit until they found him. Evan particle carried him to the car. "Oh shoot, I have to tell Sandy she need to find another ride." Liz ran into the house. Asking around she was directed to Tom's room. She knocked on the door, not hearing anything she opened the door to find the two kissing on the bed. She slammed the door shut before they could see who opened it and wrote a message on the white board on his door for Sandy to find a ride home. After which she got out fast.
"Let her know?" Evan asked.
"Sort of..." Liz muttered. She dropped Evan and her brother off and then drove to Rose's house. She talked the whole time about anything she could think of. As she pulled in, she became silent. Liz started to cry silently. "They were kissing so I wrote a message on his white board."
"Oh Liz...I'm so sorry," Rose said giving her a hug. "There is just one thing I don't know why, it doesn't even matter how hard you try, he doesn't seem to see you could do so much for him. Do you want to sleep over and talk about it?"
"Nah, I have to get up early," She dried her face as much as she could. Rose got out of the car.
"I'll call you tomorrow then! And remember it doesn't even matter In the end it will end up right." Rose shut the door and walked into her house. Liz drove down to the beach. She felt better there for some reason. Getting out she walked over to the swings and sat there for about an hour till she heard someone talking to her.
"And so, that's why they call it a quarter moon," She heard a males voice say. Glancing to her side, she noticed some guy who looked to be about her age.
"What the hell? When did you get here? Who are you?" Liz seemed to blurt the questions out all at once.
"Hi, I guessed you weren't really paying attention. I have been here for about fifteen minutes now," He said. "My names David, Dave for short." He looked at her closely, "And I lived a two houses in front of you. You have the house in front of you and then I live behind them."
"Wow..." Liz was still slightly shocked.
"So why the long face?" Dave asked.
"Umm..." Liz thought a moment. Was she really going to tell this guy her problems, "It's complicated..."
"Always complicated with the girls, Let me guess, it's about a guy?" Dave smirked.
"Yeah...I mean what it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when I tried so hard, but still couldn't succeed."
"Well I wouldn't worry, you're a pretty girl, I bet you could get any guy you wanted, if you wanted to."
"That's nice of you to say but I don't think so." She got up from the swing. "I think I'm gonna head home, you want a ride?"
"Sure...I guess it's better than walking," He stood up and followed her to the car.
"Sure? Dude it's freaken three miles away, I would not want to walk that. And at night!" She shook her head and opened her car getting in. "So how come I haven't seen you in school, Dave?" She asked when he got in.
"We'll I'm still had my other school, but Monday will be my first day at yours. I have my schedule and everything, Too bad no tour of the school," He laughed lightly, and she turned on the car.
"Well what do you have Monday?" She asked, backing up and starting on the road.
"Let's see," He thought about it for a minute, "Gym, English, Latin, and Cooking."
"You have my schedule. I'll meet you in the cafe and lead you to class, alright?" Liz asked. "The freaky, what do you have the next day?"
"Umm.... I think Trig, Chorus, and study."
"Wow, if you have Physics you would have my schedule!" She pulled into his driveway.
"Thanks for the ride," He said getting out of the car.
"No problem, See you Monday," She said. He nodded and shut the car door. She backed out of his driveway and waited for him to enter his house before driving home.
That weekend was a bore. She did her homework and watched TV. She didn't call anyone and didn't take any calls. "Just get a name and number and tell them I'm out with my grandfather," She had told her family to say. Sunday night she looked over the list of and noticed Dave called. Picking up the phone she decided to give him a ring.
"Hi is Dave home?" She said as soon as someone picked up.
"Speaking," He replied.
"Hey it's Liz, you called?"
"Yeah, I was wondering what was going on in English, Trig, Latin, Cooking, and Chorus?"
"God if I knew." She laughed lightly. "Well English we are reading 1984, Trig were reviewing Chapter 12, Latin we are finished up the section with Catullus and Horace, Cooking we are cooking, and Chorus we are getting ready for our spring concert."
"Great, haven't missed a thing, I'm actually a little a head in all but cooking, chorus, and Latin."
"That's good, you can give me a hand when I have trouble with something then!" She laughed lightly.
"Well thanks, I'll see you tomorrow in the cafe."
"Night."
"Night." They hung up at the same time and Liz went to bed.
That night Sandy and Thomas started going out. A month and a half later, they broke up; three weeks before prom. Liz didn't find out why they had broken up, but she really didn't need to know, Sandy was her friend and she was going to be there for her. Sandy went to Liz after the break up. Liz made her feel better, told her bad things about Tom, cracked jokes, and watched sappy movies. Dave and Liz became extremely good friends. They hung out all the time, talked about movies, homework, animals, and all sorts of other things. Liz felt good being around Dave and Dave felt the same way. During one of the movies Liz was watching with Sandy, Tom called.
"Hello?" Liz answered the phone walking into the other room.
"Hey, is Liz home?" Tom asked.
"Your talking to her," She responded. She couldn't tell who it was, but she knew it wasn't Dave.
"Hey, it's Tom," Great, she thought.
"Oh hey, what's up?"
"Not much, just wondering if you're going to the dance Friday?"
"No, I don't believe I am going to go."
"Oh why not? I thought we could hang out after." He had obviously found out she had a crush on him before he started dating Sandy.
"Well I already made plans to hang with David, Evan, Rose, and Sandy."
"Sounds like you'll just be a fifth wheel, not too much fun there." Liz raised an eyebrow as he said that.
"Excuse me?"
"Well yeah, everyone knows Sandy and I broke up, cause she liked David and I liked someone else, I hear that little Davie likes her back."
"What?" Her heart sank, she never really thought about David in that way, but when Tom said that, she just felt completely empty. She did not want him liking Sandy.
"Well I like you Liz," He had apparently taken that "what" in the wrong way.
"I'm sorry but I have to go." With that she hung up the phone and called up David.
"Hello?" She heard him answer.
"Hey!" Liz sounded a little upset; "Do you think you can come over in about a hour?"
"Sure, what's wrong?"
"I'll tell you in a hour." She then hung up and walked back to Sandy. She sat there in silence. Sandy didn't seem to even notice that the phone had run. When the movie ended, Sandy went home and David came over. They sat on the front porch in the swinging chair.
"So what'd you need to talk to me about?" David said sounding slightly worried.
"Tom called me today, right before I called you, and well, He told me that he liked me and you liked Sandy," She was starring at her feet. "Do you like Sandy?"
David tilted his head watching her for a moment. When she finally looked up, her eyes were filled with tears. She quickly turned her head away trying to remove the tears from her eyes.
"No, I can't say that I do like Sandy," He responded and put an arm around Liz, her head resting against his shoulder. She felt better in his embrace. "I can tell you didn't care about Tom liking you either."
"No I can't say that I did care, It doesn't even matter how hard he may try, I just don't care," She said. "He's a waste of time."
"Well I'm glad you came to realize that," He said, then kissed her forehead. "Would you care if I told you I liked you?" She looked up at him with a small smile curving onto her lips. She was so happy that he didn't like Sandy, but she was even happier that he might like her.
"I think...I think that I would care," She said softly.
"Hey Liz, I have something really important to tell you, I like you," Dave said softly to her. "I would really be honored to be your prom date also." Liz smiled and nodded her head in yes. "Oh, and did I mention, that not only do I want to be your prom date, but," He smiled softly, lifting her head up so her eyes and his were straight across from each other, his eyes beaming into hers, "I would really like to be your boyfriend."
