High School Musical Manicure Kits Recalled Due to Lead

Charisse Van Horn
The makers of the High School Musical Manicure kit have recalled the product due to high levels of lead detected in the kit's pouch. The manicure kit itself doesn't contain lead, but the lead is found in the lettering that is used on the pouch to form the words "High School Musical". It is safe to continue to use the manicure items, but the pouch must be disposed of. If you have any questions regarding replacement items, you should contact the manufacturer of the manicure kit, Fantas-Eyes.

There were approximately 15,000 units of the manicure kit sold throughout the United States. They retailed for eleven dollars and were sold between the months of September and November 2008. They were sold on the Lakeside.com website as well as the LTD and ABC catalogs. If you believe that you or your children have the High School Musical kit, it is imperative to take the kit away immediately and contact the company.

Lead poisoning is a serious illness that is better prevented than dealt with later on. It's important to understand that lead poisoning occurs through direct exposure or contact with lead. The United States government has banned the use of lead in products in 1978, however lead continues to enter

the United States in products that have been imported from other countries. The High School Musical Manicure kit was manufactured in China, a country that frequently uses lead in their products.

The body has a very hard time ridding itself of lead, causing levels to accumulate and build up over time. Since children's bodies are growing and developing, they are more susceptible to the harmful and negative effects of lead. Even unborn children can suffer from its harmful affects while still in the womb. Staying away from dangerous levels of lead, in products as well as the environment, is the best course of action.

Knowing the signs of lead poisoning is important in both children and adults. However, since the signs of lead poisoning are often mistaken for other illnesses, it is best to contact your health care provider with any questions or concerns that you might have. The symptoms of lead poisoning present in children include feeling anxious or irritable, difficulty or slow growth rate, impaired IQ or learning disabilities, complaining of pains, especially in the abdomen area, anemia, and sudden or unexplained weight loss. Again, if you suspect that your child might be suffering from lead poisoning, contact your health care provider immediately. If you need to contact the Fantas-Eyes Company you can do so here:
