High-End Liquid Eyeliner Reviews

Bob Sagette
With the plethora of liquid eyeliners on the market and the new technology that makes our ordinary eyeliners into electronic gadgets, it can be confusing on which one to pick. Below is a list of the liquid eyeliners I have tested. There are several different types of liquid eyeliner. Some have a felt tip and some are hair bristles, which is like if you took an eyeliner brush and stuck it in liquid liner. Then there is the manual dip-it-in and apply or the automatic pen liners. With the pen liners, you usually have to press or twist the bottom of the pen to start the flow of liner. I will just say straight off the bat that you should steer clear of felt tip, automatic liquid eyeliners. They tend to dry out, be less precise, and disburse either too much or way too little.

Ecriture De Chanel $34
Felt tip, automatic. This and the MAC Pen Ultimate liner are the only two felt tip, automatic liners that work pretty good but they still are not something I would repurchase.

Giorgio Armani Maestro $31
Felt tip, automatic. I first purchased this when it was launched and as soon as I brought it home to try it was dried out and would not work for the life of me. I exchanged it the next day for a new one and again, it dried out right away. I also find the tip clumsy and large. Not great for precise thin lines.

Lancome Artliner $29
Felt tip. Not one of my favorites. The liquid comes out in globs and the brush is not very precise.

ShiseidoThe Makeup Fine Eyeliner $28
Hair bristles, automatic. This one bugs me. It is a refillable pen. The refills cost $14 and you can only find the "soft black" refill in the US which is horrible because the soft black looks like your pen dried out and it comes off blotchy. I hate this one.

Urban Decay Liquid Liner $18
Hair bristles. This is one of my favorites because the handle is very short which works well for me. Some people prefer long handles because it gives them better control but for me it is the opposite. Also, this liner stays on! And it dries to a dark patent leather shine. Super glam.

Yves Saint Laurent Easy Liner for Eyes $34
Hair bristles, automatic. My favorite automatic eyeliner. It is VERY precise and disburses the right amount of liner. Also, the tube is very beautiful. Both of the YSL liquid liners are both extremely precise and pretty.

Yves Saint Laurent Eyeliner Noir $34
Hair bristles. Not for beginners but it is very precise and my go-to liquid eyeliner. I use it every day because it makes perfect lines, doesn't smudge, and it is pretty.

MAC Liquid Liner $16.50
Felt tip. Oldie but goodie. This is a great liquid liner for beginners. However, sometimes it can come out in globs and run into your eye, and let me tell you, this formula stings!

MAC Pen Ultimate Liner $16.50
Felt tip, automatic. This is one of the better felt tip, automatic liquid liners. I would say this is pretty good.
