Higher Consciousness Through Astronaut's Epiphany

Part of the Aquarian Age

Aquarian Age and higher consciousness is a long awaited state of mind for the world, and Edgar Mitchell became part of this consciousness after his experience on the Apollo 14 mission to the moon.

On January 31, a special way of knowing came into Mitchell's consciousness forty years ago. Described as a "collective leap," Dr. Mitchell piloted the Apollo 14 back to earth looking out the only view available in the space capsule.

What this experience would be like is profoundly unimaginable, because his life was suddenly and forever changed. As a scientist, he may have been a skeptic of the results of an epiphany that radically changed his life, but he wasn't.

Sharing with the world, he described a sudden inner knowing of how the molecules within his human form are the same as the surrounding molecules. He perceived the holistic nature of the moment realizing that his fellow astronauts, the celestial bodies, and everything around him are part of a harmonious living system.

Trained as an engineer as well as a scientist, Mitchell's rational world, and the discipline of physical exactitude were counter balanced with a new way of knowing. His experience went to this place of uncharted territory of consciousness, and on to an area equally as new as the exploration of the moon.

Is this another way to say we are all in this together?

Something made his epiphany feel very much like a philosophy to embrace. As come what may, he thoroughly trusted the ways of thinking that befell him while viewing earth through the space capsule's window.

The uncharted and deepest exploration ahead would be human consciousness.

Because of his consciousness transformation, he founded the "Institute of Noetic Sciences." Though he was entering uncharted territory within his own realm of experience, the term of noetic isn't anything new. It dates back to ancient Greece. The root word, noesis, means wisdom, direct knowing, or subjective understanding.

Within the subjective description, one may find a place where both science and inward knowing blend together.

The Institute of Noetic Sciences is based on the following philosophy:

"We believe that consciousness is essential to a paradigm shift that will lead to a more sustainable world. We encourage open-minded explorations of consciousness through the meeting of science and spirit. "

The world could use a little noetic knowledge.

"What this experience would be like is profoundly unimaginable, because his life was suddenly and forever changed." I share Mitchell's revelations about the self. I had an life altering epiphany of my own back in the 70'sa that correlates to what Mitchell appears to have had. Good article Carol.
