High-Fiving the Mitten: A Review of Michigan Amber Lager from Atwater Block Brewery

Sometimes these mitten-state beers tickle your fancy and other times they slap you in the back of that big old head of yours and say, "Step outside the glove." This one is nervously stroking it's foot-long goatee and deciding whether to knock this sucka out or pat me on the noggin like a good little Michigander. Well, no need for violence here. The only thing more superfluously ridiculous than cheering for your favorite sporting team is to cyber battle your craft beer foes.

This is a lager and that's where the good and bad begins. It doesn't taste like your typical standard fare macro but it also doesn't light a blazing trail to craft Valhalla. In fact "the perfect balance between roasted barley and select hops." quote displayed on the label isn't quite so accurate. It's kind of boring really. There's a butternut squash feel to it with a zap-zing of hop-tricity and a sweet clean afterbite. A beer that you could easily drink a couple of in a short amount of time if you were so inclined. I'm more inclined to get back to my turntable and the art of recording useless artifacts of aural splendor for the few.
