Last year's two superstars, winner Michael Grimm and runner-up Jackie Evancho are both on their way to stardom. Michael Grimm has just released his first CD which is self-titled as he continues to perform around the country. Jackie Evancho will release her next CD, "Dream With Me" this summer.
All three judges returned: Howie Mandel, Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan. Emcee Nick Cannon also returned after becoming a "Daddy" for the first time.
As is customary with "America's Got Talent," their first show had some great talent, some not-so-great talent, and a lot of laughs.
"America's Got Talent" started off with a bang after a few rivalry comments between Howie Mandel and Piers Morgan. Here's a few of the highlights from the first show of America's Got Talent:
Frank Olivier
Frank was "America's Got Talent" first act although at times it appeared that this act was rehearsed with the judges. Frank is a 50 yr. old contestant who rode a unicycle while juggling three flaming torches. The exciting part belonged to Howie Mandel, however, as Frank asked Howie to join him on stage to help him. At first, this act looked quite amateur as Frank got onto his bike with Howie's not-so-willing help. Frank seemed quite unsteady as he held onto Howie's bald head to gain control of his bike. In the end, Frank gave a great performance but it left the germ-phobic Howie Mandel speechless and breathless. Piers Morgan voted Frank as his favorite act even though this was the first performance of the season.
Ryan Andreas
Reminiscent of Michael Grimm's voice, a very nervous Ryan Andreas performed in similar deep, raspy, raw vocals as he sang, "Arms Of An Angel." His is the type of voice you'll stop what you're doing and listen. Ryan blew the judges and audience away with his wonderful performance. Remember the name, Ryan Andreas as this is one performer to watch during this season's "America's Got Talent" competition.
Team Illuminate
Here was a definite Las Vegas act. The high energy performance of these illuminated dancers left the audience wanting more. A fabulous high tech light show act that we'll look for in the next round of competition.
Of course, "America's Got Talent" wouldn't be complete without a few laughs, a few mistakes, and some not-so-good talent. Here's a few of those examples:
SH'Boss Boys
A group of three young rappers who all stood on stage doing nothing while the music played thanks to Nick Cannon. As one of the young rappers proclaimed that it was the wrong track, an embarrassed Nick Cannon quickly confessed to an "Oops!" moment and played the correct track. The young rappers proceeded to perform and did a nice job.
Primitivo Montoya
Not a class act in any sense of the word, Primitivo is a middle-aged gent who danced and sang and fell off the stage. Apparently, too close to the end of the stage, Primitivo fell in front of the judges, got back up, and continued. He was okay, however, we will not be seeing him in the next round of competition.
Watching "America's Got Talent" is always a fun-filled entertaining evening and the show didn't disappoint us in that respect. A few excellent performances were presented that will be worth waiting for as we anticipate next week's contestants on "America's Got Talent."

This is definitely an entertaining show, but I usually miss it, so thanks for the recap.

Good recap...there are so many talent shows now.
Great article, although I must confess I've never seen this show.
Great review -- however, I'd rather read your reviews than actually watch the show :-)
