What follows are some ideas for amazing date nights that don't have to break the bank.
Tip Number 1: Make the Invitation Public
Set up your date by sending flowers or a card to her at work. The key here is your note or flowers need to be delivered in front of her co-workers and by someone other than you. There's nothing like getting flowers or being semi-publicly invited on a romantic evening to make a lady feel special. Make sure the co-workers know something is going on, but keep the mystery. Let your spouse decide how much she wants them to know.
Tip Number 2: Build Anticipation
Leave a note in her car at work, send her an email, hide a note in her lunch box. Do whatever you can to let her know how excited you are to be able to spend special time with her.
Tip Number 3: Use Other People
It takes a real man to be willing to have other people help deliver his message of love to his mate. Some guys just don't have the guts. But try this: Take your spouse to dinner and through-out the meal, have wait-staff, bus boys, managers, et cetera deliver Thank You Cards to her, each one thanking her for something she does for you or your family.
Another idea is to have them give her adjectives. You start by having your server give her a note, in your handwriting, that says, "You are..." then every few minutes another note is delivered: "Beautiful," "Amazing," "the world's best mom," and so forth. You can set this up ahead of time or you can slip the hostess a note and an envelope containing all your adjectives when she seats you.
Tip Number 4: Ask Her Questions
Just this one night, be absolutely into everything she has to say. Ask her about her dreams, her challenges, her hopes, her fears, her favorites, everything her. When the conversation turns away from her, steer it back. Make this her night. Let her know how truly into her you really are.
Tip Number 5: Clean House
A man with a vacuum is like porn for a lot of women! On the day of your date, make sure she is surprised by a spotless house when she gets home, either before the date or right after. This might require taking a little time off work, but it will be hours well spent. Don't just straighten-up. Vacuum, dust, empty the sink, make the bed. Clean it like you mean it!
Tip Number 6: Primp
Make a special effort to look good for her on this special night. Shave, put on cologne, iron, wear nice clothes. Chances are she's gonna work hard to look good for you. Make sure you show her the same respect.
Tip Number 7: Draw a Bath
When the date is over and you get home, tell her you have one more surprise. Have her sit and relax in another room while you fill the tub with hot water and bubbles. Then take it an extra step and throw in some rose petals (our local grocery store carries them). Light as many candles as you can, put on some soft music, then call her in and help her into her bath. Helping her undress in this environment is very sensual and romantic, but don't be tempted to make advances. This night is about her. Be a gentleman and keep your hands to yourself, for now, at least.
Once she's in the tub, leave her to relax and enjoy the quiet. When you hear she's ready to get out, help her into a warm robe and lead her to the bedroom were there are more candles and quiet music.
Tip Number 8: Say It
Lead her to the bed and sit down beside her. Tell her how special and important she is to you. Really spill it. Just for tonight, open up.
Now let her decide where to take the rest of the night. Getting mad if things don't turn physical will ruin everything you've done. Make up your mind in advance that you will be OK with whatever she decides here. Your true reward for this night is not physical. It's making the woman you love feel truly amazing, if just for tonight.
Bonus Tip Number 9: Repeat as needed
