Released on January 8, 2010 for iPhone users, GeoGroups designed a way for Apple users to connect on a social and professional platform by providing the capability to interact through public/private groups on a single personalized map. After having a very successful run on the old Windows Mobile platform, GeoGroups created the iPhone version allowing more users to communicate with others on this unique application. Available for free, GeoGroups offers a way for users to seek locations of loved ones, search the whereabouts of current employees, and track popular social event destinations through the application's unique features.

Unlike other third-party applications, GeoGroups offers enhanced features for locating individuals/places through the location-based map. Through the application, users have the option to post important information and updates to their Private or Public "Group". The Private "Groups" option allows users to post their real-time locations (known as GeoPosts) and alerts to chosen members of the creator's "Group". In order for the user to obtain locations of individuals from the chosen "Group", the other members must make their location available to view. All users in the Private "Group" may post important information pertaining to the subject's whereabouts including real-time locations, images, and other helpful hints. Through GeoAlerts, for a one-time fee of $3.99, users of the Private "Group" may be notified when the individual being searched travels to an area/point of interest outside of the set/specified distance. Users also have the option to make their "Group" Public, which particularly helps finding special events in the area and for locating missing children through the National "Amber Alert" system.

Within GeoGroups users can change various security preferences such as turning the phone's location on/off, designating times and groups to view specific locations, and providing the option to make location-based information available or private to others. Users may choose to either turn the phone's location off, disabling the option to be tracked through the enhanced map, or to designate certain times to be tracked by other users. Users also have the option to allow their location to be shared with others (such as Facebook wall posts), or change the security preferences to make information privately shared with chosen members in the "Group". Since the initial launch of GeoGroups, 29,923 people have registered to use the location-based application, with users posting 10,622 images and 147,125 GeoPosts throughout the tool.
