Hiking Guide for the Hocking Hills Region

Region in Logan, Ohio

The Hocking Hills region in Logan Ohio is home to many great parks for spectacular and scenic hikes. It can be difficult to decide which one to visit. As I have been to each hiking destination in the Hocking Hills many times I will offer insight and descriptions of several parks.

Old Mans Cave is by far the most popular of all the Hocking Hills parks. Old Mans Cave is not only beautiful, but also great exercise. Many steps await you at Old Mans Cave, so very small children and the elderly might not enjoy the full hike. However the upper trail is lovely, and extremely easy. Old Mans Cave offers great views of the Devils Bathtub, among other natural wonders. Old Mans Cave is beautifully kept, and offers a snack bar as well as a gift shop and learning center.

Nearby is Ash Cave, where you will enjoy a shorter hike, in an equally gorgeous setting. Ash Cave is not too strenuous and has a lovely waterfall. Conkles Hollow is one of the easiest and most lovely trails. Conkles Hollow is a nature preserve, so you can not take your dogs along on this hike. If you are seeking something really strenuous, try the Upper Rim of Conkles Hollow. Children and the Elderly as well as unprepared hikers should not venture up the Upper Rim trail.

Cantwell Cliffs is not frequently visited, due to the distance from Logan, many hikers are discouraged from stopping at Cantwell Cliffs. It is well worth the detour to hike here. You will enjoy serenity, and peace in the wonder of the woods. It is a lovely drive if you opt to stop by Cantwell Cliffs.

Airplane Rock is certainly off the beaten path, and you will need to do your homework if you intend to visit Airplane Rock. It is located in Gibisonville Ohio, and is frequently used as a horse trail. This is a long hike, but it is well worth the distance for the opportunity to get in touch with nature and experience the beauty of Airplane Rock, as well as the journey to reach it.

Regardless of your hiking destination in the Hocking Hills please be responsible and safe. Don't venture off the trails, and if you can take a friend. While visiting the scenic Hocking Hills, please don't litter, and if you take your dog, clean up after him!

The Hocking Hills offer over ten thousand public hiking trails as well as many campgrounds . This is seriously one of the best hiking destinations the state of Ohio has to offer,
