Hilarious Hilary

As a Woman I Would like to Have a Female President, but is Hilary Really the Woman for the Job?

Cathy Hayes
As you might guess from my topic title, I am not a fan of Hilary. The only reason so many women support her is probably because they share the same gender with Hilary--we think. One never knows these days. (OK that was unnecessary)

Back to the point. Supporting Hilary Clinton simply because she is a woman is ludicrous. If you were really a fan of women, then you would want to pick a female candidate so qualified that she would leave men in no doubt of our equality. Hilary is not the woman for the job. In fact, as my mother put it, she is a "social climber".

Her political career was begun just to support this presidential campaign! When she ran for Senate, why didn't she run for her home state of Illinois? or even better for her husband's home state of Arkansas? Instead she chose to run for New York State. A state that is obviously liberal and pro-Democrat. A state where it would be easy to win the vote. I will admit, as a New Yorker, that at the time she ran for her first Senate term, we were in love with the Clintons. But then, isn't that what Bill made sure of when he poured so much money into Manhattan's poorest neighborhoods, and then settled in Westchester, NY after his 8 years in the White House?

Hilary Clinton has been a senator for 7 years and 2 months. Is that really enough time to learn about the government and its dealings? People count her years with Bill as part of her political experience, but lets be honest here, you cannot call a woman an expert just because her husband does something. You do not get experience by "association".

In all honesty, I feel that she is the least experienced of the top 3 Democratic candidates. Obama has had 11 years as a Senator, and Edwards has had 9 years as a Senator.

I would love to have a female president as much as the next woman. However, when a woman wins the presidency, it must be a win that will leave the others in the dust. She has to be a candidate with no questions surrounding her, she has to have experience, she has to represent women properly. I would have loved to see someone like Condolezza Rice run, but her career with the Bush administration has ended the chance of that ever happening.

Basically, Hilary is not the right female candidate. The Presidency of the United States is too important a position to hand over to a candidate based on something like their gender. Look what we got stuck with in 2004 when people voted based on "faith"!

I would advise Hilary to give up now and come back to the business of representing New York state in the Senate while she still has that job!

Hilary Clinton was born in Park Ridge, Illinois. A neighborhood 15 minutes away from Chicago's O-Hare Airport.
Senator Clinton is the first New York Senator to serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee.
