Hilary Duff Announces Engagement

Hilary Duff, the 22 year old singer and actress, announced her engagement to Edmonton Oilers player Mike Comrie.

According to Yahoo News, Duff's reps announced that "the 29 year old hockey player popped the question while the couple was vacationing in Hawaii. "

The couple have been together for over two years, their relationship blossoming in 2007. Duff's previous boyfriends include Aaron Carter and Joel Madden.

Duff describes her fiancee as, "a great guy. I've never met anyone who could say a bad word about him. He's generous, caring, funny. We just laugh our heads off, which I need in my life ... He's unique. I wouldn't want to be with someone who wasn't unique."

But will the engagement last? In Hollywood, it's rare that even the most loving couples make it through engagement, let alone a marriage. And at just 22, Duff seems a little young to take the plunge.

Other young Hollywood couples were not met with relationship success. Jason Wahler, then 22, called off his engagement to Katja Decker Sadowski, then 21, after the couple agreed they were just too young for marriage.

And what about all those stars who end their engagement for unclear reasons, like Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green; or how about Kanye West and Alexis Phifer?

Hollywood is full of pitfalls and potholes that can make even the most committed engagement fall by the wayside. Duff, however, has never been one to get caught up in the drama of Hollywood. She is one of a small handful of young stars who has not been caught with scandalous photos, sex tapes, or drugs.

Despite Duff's seemingly level head, there are still issues that could take the couple by surprise. Their lifestyles are different and their careers are active. Films and sporting events will constantly drag them away from each other and sometimes even the most loving relationship can't last through extensive time apart.

No matter what happens, I wish the best of luck to the young couple. I hope they are able to stick together and maintain a happy and healthy relationship in the celebrity world. Hopefully they can stay out of the drama and stay in love.
