Hilary Duff Diet and Exercise Plan

Amanda Thompson
In US Weekly months ago Hilary Duff revealed her dieting struggles. She says she developed some very unhealthy eating habits, such as loading up on junk food. These bad habits led to a weight gain at age 15 that was publicized and very hard for the actress. She explained her eating habits saying, "I used to eat chicken fingers, french fries, and ice cream all the time."

Driven by the media scrutiny of her size, Hilary Duff become "obsessed" with following a strict protein and vegetable diet to lose weight. She recalls how "you stress out about being in a bathing suit" when you don't have good eating habits and have gained a little bit of weight. Hilary quickly lost the extra weight only to under pressure again as the media speculated that she was too skinny now that she lost the weight. "Everybody speculates that you're not eating or are doing drugs. You're damned if you do, and you're dammed if you don't" she says. First she was too heavy and then she was too skinny.

Hilary Duff's Diet Plan

Hilary Duff says her diet consists of greens, fresh fruit and lean protein. A sample day of her eating:

Breakfast- Kashi cereal with 2 percent milk (or an egg-white omelet with Feta cheese) and a latte made with 2 percent milk.
Lunch - Grilled chicken Caesar salad with 1 tablespoon of reduced-fat dressing (or grilled ahi tuna salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing)
Dinner - Tuna steak, grilled veges and couscous (she also loves sushi)
Snack - Handful of mixed nuts (or an apple and Brie cheese) She also indulges in chips and salsa.

Hilary Duff Workout

Not only did Hilary change her eating habits to a much healthier meal plan, but she also changed her exercise habits. As a former gymnast she says she had a tendency to bulk up with heavy amounts of exercise. "I couldn't just go to the gym like my friends and lift weights. I would get these muscles in my legs. I felt boyish."

Hilary's solution? Instead of lifting weights to developing long lean muscles Hilary took up Pilates workouts with Viveca Jensen of LA's V Pilates.

Pilates - Hilary does her Pilates workouts at home where she does hour long workouts on Pilates reformer machines 4 times a week. She concentrates on working her lower body by doing 32 reps each of 20 different leg and butt exercises. She also does 5 different ab exercises.
Swimming - While touring for music she swims, alternating 7 laps each of freestyle, breast, butterfly and sidestroke daily.

Hilary Duff might have been under scrutiny for first being too big and then being too small, but in the end she has ditched the bad habits for new healthy ones. In the long run that will help her stay light and healthy, regardless of what the media says about her.
