Hilary Duff Now Engaged to Oilers' Mike Comrie

Disney Channel darling Hilary Duff is now engaged to hockey player Mike Comrie.

According to an E Online source, Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie got engaged this week while vacationing in Maui. They have been dating for more than two years. They have not set a wedding date.

Hilary Duff, 22, starred in the 2001 Disney Channel sitcom Lizzie McGuire. She has also appeared in movies such as Cheaper By the Dozen and A Cinderella Story. Mike Comrie, 29, plays for the Edmonton Oilers.

It's refreshing to see Hilary Duff in a happy engagement as she has been through her share of relationship drama in the past. Fans likely remember her rumored feud with Lindsay Lohan. Hilary Duff had begun dating in Aaron Carter in 2001 before Aaron Carter cheated on her with Lindsay Lohan. He ended up going back to Hilary only to cheat on her with her best friend.

In 2005, Aaron Carter owned up to cheating on Duff and admitted to regretting his mistakes. "She (Duff) really got her heart broken from me and I'm sorry for that." (as reported by Contact Music). Thankfully he's matured since then. He actually came across as somewhat likable during his run on Dancing With the Stars.

In 2004, Hilary Duff began dating Joel Madden, lead vocalist of the band Good Charlotte. The couple broke up in November 2006, right around the time that her parents decided to separate. Like many artists and musicians, she has used music to cope with her relationship woes. According to The Telegraph, Her song Gypsy Woman is about her father's infidelity while Stranger is about her parents' separation.

Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie began dating in 2007. Although they have been seeing each other for over two years, the couple took a year-and-a-half before going public as a couple (according to Hot Momma Gossip). And when E Online broke news of the engagement, Hilary Duff's mother initially denied the reports, but to no avail. I guess I wouldn't blame her mother for not believing the reports. In this generation, 22 seems a bit young to get married, and it's a bit strange for a parent to have to find out about her daughter's engagement via Internet.

It would be interesting to see the engagement ring. Mike Comrie seems quite generous in the gift department. For her 20th birthday, he had given her a Mercedes Benz G-Class SUV (retail value $100,000 according to People).
