Hillary Clinton Accepts Secretary of State

The New York Times reported Friday morning that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) has accepted President-elect Barack Obama's offer for the position of Secretary of State. Fox News confirmed the report at 3:15 p.m. EST, while NBC continues to unfold additonal prospects for the Obama cabinet. The news regarding Clinton's acceptance was reportedly leaked by two unnamed confidants.

One told the Times, "She's ready," saying that Mrs. Clinton arrived at her decision after additional discussion with Obama about the nature of her role and his plans for foreign policy. As Americans prepare for a pre-holiday weekend, media outlets are expecting that additional cabinet appointment news may be forthcoming.

One of the most formidable prospects in the minds of many for the Obama administration, Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, is rumored to be tapped for the Department of Commerce according to the Washington Post. If chosen, Richardson will be the first Hispanic appointed to Obama's administration.

It would certainly be an interesting time to work at the State Department.

Don't feel bad, Brooke, the New York Times isn't the only paper that has a tendency to jump the gun and report "breaking news" as "fact" before getting "official" confirmation. I think the country's liberal media can't wait to jump on the latest "news" bandwagon either . Sometimes their getting the "scoop" means being left holding the "poop."

Well, one week later we have no official confirmation...but at the time of this post, the NYT was reporting this as hard fact and all the networks were running with it. So to those who may take issue with this post: Blame the New York Times (ha ha). I'll look to see if they retracted the story, but I doubt it, as they stated her acceptance was confirmed by two anonymous "confidants."

I'm glad Obama offered this post to her, and glad she accepted. Can't wait to hear more.

VERY interesting indeed ... I think she's very smart, but I'm always suspicious of motives with her and Bill. I think Obama was smart to do it, to take her out of the running in '12.
