Hillary Clinton Compares American News Media to Arab News Media Al Jazeera

American News Media Focuses Too Much on Scandals Rather Than "Real News"

Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, argued against cutting her budget in half before the U.S. Foreign Policy Priorities Committee on March 2. Hillary stated that the U.S. is losing the "information war" around the world. Hillary compared former serious US news media outlets like Voice of America to Al Jazeera, noting that US News institutions are now shadows of their former selves, while English-language TV channels like Russia Today and CCTV -- products of authoritarian regimes in Moscow and Beijing, respectively -- have stepped up their presence from Africa to Southeast Asia.

Hillary was quotes as saying, "Al Jazeera has been the leader in that [it is] literally changing people's minds and attitudes. And like it or hate it, it is really effective... In fact viewership of al Jazeera is going up in the United States because it's real news. You may not agree with it, but you feel like you're getting real news around the clock instead of a million commercials and, you know, arguments between talking heads and the kind of stuff that we do on our news which, you know, is not particularly informative to us, let alone foreigners."

Whether a Democrat, Republican, or Independent, anyone who lived in this country before news became mostly for entertainment, would have to agree with Hillary.

I have even noticed this when writing articles here on Associated Content. The articles I wrote about the oil spill in Louisiana and the one on Goldman Sachs received few page views. Whereas, the ones on celebrities or other lite stuff received way more page views.

Although some of the information contained in the articles on the oil spill and Goldman Sachs had been in mainstream media, some of it had not. So, I offered some insights that others might not have known about unless, they, like me, had done a lot of research, digging to find out exactly what happened.

I think another reason that news media no longer offer "real news" is because we live in a polarized, paranoid society. If you voice an opinion or write something that someone disagrees with, you risk being investigated by the powers-that-be as a threat to their interests.

So, let's not tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth because too many people will get upset, possibly so upset that we will get targeted, harrassed, maybe even shot--like Gabby Gifford.

Just because we voiced an opinion. That is not democracy, folks. Think about it.

The issues that really matter in this world aren't being covered in mainstream media because they don't think they can handle the truth.
