Sources from both sides have been hush-hush about the whole ordeal, but, a few leaks, whether accidental or on purpose, have been let out that she would indeed accept the proposal and the announcement is to be made Monday in Obama's hometown of Chicago, IL.
To find out what the Secretary of State does, check out my other article on Associate Content here. Along with the definition of Secretary of State and a summary of the Secretary of State responsibilities, you will also find discussion about Hillary Clinton and her qualifications as well as some heated discussions about current president George Bush.
If Hillary Clinton accepts the offer of Secretary of State from President Elect Barack Obama, she is taking a big risk. The president is able to terminate her position of Secretary of State after one term if he doesn't like the way she is doing her job as Secretary of State. Many worry that foreign leaders will have issues with Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State because of her apparent strained relations with Obama. Although Hillary and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, eventually endorsed Obama, the relations between the two democrats were volatile during the primaries.
By taking the offer of Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton would have to give up her seat as a New York State Senator. If she were to decline the offer for Secretary of State, all sources say she will accept Monday in Chicago, she would be allowed to raise funds to pay back her almost $8 million in campaign debt. As Secretary of State she would not be able to raise the funds to pay off the debts and would be responsible for paying the debt by herself. Hillary Clinton is taking a big chance by accepting Obama's offer of being his Secretary of State. If Obama decides to replace her after one term she will have lost her seat in the senate, be personally responsible for the nearly $8 million in campaign debts, and could possibly out herself to run against him in 2012 for President.
Much history has been made this campaign season with the oldest man to run for a first term presidency, the first black president, the ending term of the worst President in history, and now a former rival of Obama to be named the Secretary of State.
