Hillary Clinton Needs West Virginia

Hillary has been busy in West Virginia, making speeches, proving points and driving her campaign in an effort to win the support of West Virginia voters, a tiny state of utmost importance. Currently she is trailing Obama in delegates won, but in years past the winner of West Virginia has stood testament to the future president; no one since 1916 has won the presidency without its backing. The state began polling early this morning (Tuesday, May 13th) and Clinton is reportedly leading Obama by an average 40 points.

She has a large backing from West Virginia due to their blue-collar workers, upscale voters and small percentage of African Americans. If they were all women Obama would be sunk! Unfortunately, even a landslide victory at this point in the election may not save her. West Virginia has 28 delegates- which is a lot, but she is trailing Obama in all areas. CNN shows that he outranks her in delegates gained, states won and even in the popularity vote, and at this point in the election these shots sting, leaving her campaign out of breath and winded, especially since the support of superdelegates has even shied away, leaving her campaign over $20 million in debt.

Clinton scheduled four appearances in West Virginia on Monday, one of which was at Tudor's Biscuit World, a well loved restaurant with a vast assortment of delicious biscuit delicacies, ranging from fried apples, to pepperoni to any egg mix imaginable, all served on top of warm homemade biscuits. She didn't go there for food though. In fact she didn't even eat. Instead, Hillary signed autographs, posed for pictures and chatted calmly with West Virginians as they gathered to eat a midmorning breakfast, grab coffee or even better, to hear what she had to say.

Yahoo!News shows Doris Smith hadn't expected to find her there though. In fact, she wandered into Tudor's after a failed attempt at getting tickets to Barack Obama's rally. "Advance tickets were sold out," she said, "and the only other option was to stand in line for up to two hours or more and hope for the best." She opted for breakfast, and sporting an Obama T-shirt, she had just sat down when Hillary's campaign arrived. Flushed and embarrassed, Smith decided to enjoy her meal and listen to Hillary speak her views. As Clinton prepared to leave, Doris rose to shake her hand, now unashamed of her shirt, to say that getting a Democrat in office was her priority. Who her vote will go to, or if had already been taken is hard to say, but Hillary must have made an impression, because not only did she listen, she reached out.
