Hillary Clinton's Stand on Abortion

Antoinette McGowan
Hillary Clinton became a household name as the former First Lady to the White House. Now she is taking it up a notch, no longer content to stay in the presidential shadows as the First Lady, she wants back in the White House but this time as the President.

Hillary Clinton first entered the White House in 1993, as the wife of the 42nd President, William Clinton. She would remain in the White House throughout her husband's Presidential term from 1993 to 2001. During this time Hillary would come under a lot of criticism. Hillary had taken a strong role in the administration which led a lot of citizens to spout off that she was really the driving force in the White House.

On November 7, 2000, Hillary Clinton was elected into the United States Senate. She was the first " First Lady" to ever be elected into the Senate. Along with that she became the first woman to ever be elected statewide in New York, paving the way for future generations of women.

During her political career as New York Senator, Hillary Clinton has taken a strong stand on preserving civil rights and civil liberties that are afforded to Americans by the Constitution. As Senator, Hillary Clinton has also supported the Paycheck Fairness Act ,which would ensure the prevention of pay discrimination based on gender. Senator Hillary Clinton was also a negotiator for the No Child Left Behind Act.

As Senator Hillary Clinton looks to be doing a great job, rallying for things that will benefit Americans. As President will she represent what American want? Do Hillary Clinton's political views give us, what the majority of Americans want?

Abortion is always a hot topic politically and socially. The lines are drawn and the political sides seem set in their ways on what should be done about abortion. One side thinks laws need to be passed to stop abortions and protect all unborn babies. The other side believes that it is a woman's choice to have an abortion or not and that it should be accessible to safely have an abortion. Where does Hillary Clinton stand on this issue?

On her official Senate website Hillary Clinton speaks of her stand on abortion stating that she has worked for more than a decade to help decrease the number of unintended pregnancies and to also promote policies that will make for abortions to be safe and legal.

On her official Hillary For President website, Hillary Clinton shows that she still is standing by her belief that abortion is a woman's choice. Her official website speaks of how Hillary Clinton has waged a three year fight to get the " morning after pill" available over the counter. Hillary Clinton stands strong that when it comes to women's reproductive health, it is a woman's choice and has done a lot to make sure that women have access to everything from medically-accurate sex education, contraceptives, family planning education and to keep abortion legal.

In a speech Hillary Clinton gave on June 13, 2006 at the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association Luncheon, she spoke on abortion and that she stands by the fact that it is a woman's personal choice. She also spoke that things need to be done to reduce the number of abortions by preventing unintended pregnancies not by making abortion illegal. She also speaks on what she has witnessed in other countries when the government tries to dictate on a woman's choice when it comes to their reproductive health.

Hillary Clinton has shown in more than one situation where she stands on the political hot topic of abortion. Her stand has never changed. Is America ready for a female president that will fight hard to protect women's rights?

I am also apposed to the war, but it wouldnt be ok to stop at this moment. All of the soldiers that are respected so much would have died in vain. You need to figure out the reasons behind why the war was started in the first place. Without this imformation, you are just a person talking about how killing people is bad. The war cannot end now, it should have ended years ago, and since it did not, there are new problems to get through. So check your facts. I don't like the war, infact i hate war, but to stop now would be as if it never happened and all the problems we have been progressing with will just come back and all of your loved ones would have died in vain. That is the truth of the matter.
