Hillside Landscaping Can Change the Look of Your House

One of the greatest challenges to people living on hillsides is that of hillside landscaping. It's easy to believe there is nothing that can be done, particularly if the incline is quite steep, however, with a few changes it's possible to alter the look of your garden despite it being situated on a slope.

A Positive Approach To Hillside Landscaping Your Yard

Naturally, safety is the main concern regarding hillside landscaping. Do not be fooled into thinking it's worth saving the money that professionals would charge for hillside landscaping, if you live on a steep hill.

On the other hand, if the hilly area to be landscaped is within the confines of your property - either the back or front yard - then you may be able to complete your hillside landscaping without engaging the help of a professional. Start by evaluating the earth, whether it's suitable for growing plants or whether it needs richer soil added to it. Once you have done that you can consider what plants to put and where.

Ideally, bushes are the best choice of plants as they are much more resilient in bad weather and do not require constant pruning. Calculations as to how many you require will depend on the size of the area where they will be planted and should be done carefully to guarantee you don't have far too many or worse, far too few. If you wish to select other varieties of plants, then it is important make sure they grow across the hillside, rather than upwards from it.

Before continuing further it is worthwhile speaking to a landscaper or at least having a look at a range of hillside landscaping pictures to get an idea of what design you would prefer. Although theoretically the possibilities are endless, the most practical is to line them along geometric shapes such as square, rectangle, or even triangle. For anything more detailed or complex, it would be wise to consult a professional who specializes in hillside landscaping.

Additional hillside landscaping information can be gleaned from the internet or from books and magazines on gardening. Alternatively, you could speak to staff working at the local nursery or even with people who live in your neighborhood and who's gardens you admire. It is important to be certain of what you want as it is a costly process to redo hillside landscaping work once it has been completed.
