Himalayan Kabab and Curry is located at 3008-A on High Point Road (near the 4 Season Mall), and the phone number is 336-297-9544. It can be hard to find, so here's some help: it's located between West Meadowview Road and Dexter Avenue in a little strip mall , and there's a small red and white sign out front that says "Kabab and Curry." It's open every day but Monday, 11:30-3 for lunch, and 5:00-10:00 for dinner. During lunchtime, there's a lunch buffet with a lot of different dishes available.

The food is especially amazing. There is a large selection of items, and in addition to the typical Indian fare (including various kinds of nan, tandoor meals, curries, chutneys, and lassis), they have Nepali selections, such as a Yeti burger. There is also a wide selection of (100% Halal) meat, including goat and lamb. But there's also a wide variety of vegetarian dishes so vegetarians need not worry about finding something good--they just need to worry about choosing!

The lunch buffet is good, but I especially recommend going there for dinner. In addition to the various entrees, a section of the menu describes the regular dinner specials, which for a little bit more, come with a variety of entrees and appetizers, dessert, and tea or coffee. Kabab and Curry is great for a date, because you can order a special dinner for two: you can choose between a vegetarian dinner, a non-vegetarian dinner, and the most expensive, the Chef's Special Combination Dinner For Two (at a completely reasonable $30.95 altogether). All of these dinners for two come with at least one appetizer, three entrees, rice, raita (cucumber and mint in yogurt), two choices for bread, and tea or coffee. All but the vegetarian come with dessert.

The prices are very reasonable, especially given the large portion sizes. The cheapest meals begin around $8 and the most expensive meals are not more than $15 a person (and that would be the dinner special, with many different food items). The bread, soups, and desserts are all under $3 and the drinks under $2.50. The appetizers range from $1 to $6. All entrees come with nan bread, onion chutney, and rice. Depending on how much you eat in a sitting, it is totally likely that you'll have something left over to eat for lunch the next day.

The restaurant itself is very cozy and comfortable, with large booths, ceiling fans, soft colors, and delicate decor. It's fairly small and intimate, complete with kind, helpful wait staff and an owner that remembers his customers. The owner also owns Pages Past, a used bookstore located on Spring Garden Street. He's very friendly and remembered my friend and I the second time we came in, despite the fact that it had been a few months between.

Kabab and Curry has been very comfortable, quiet, relaxing, and welcoming every time I've been there. Unfortunately, it has tended to be partially empty, I think due in part to its unexpected location. It doesn't seem to be very well known, which is a shame because I've gone to a lot of Indian restaurants and this is definitely one of the best. The service is friendly, the prices are great, the selection is huge, and the food is amazing. I wanted to write this to alert others to its existence. Trust me, just try it once and you'll love it and want to go again and again.
