DIY Window Repair!

Windows are the eyes of our homes; they bring in precious light and allow us to look out into the world with all its glory. That's why it's so important to keep them in the best condition that we possibly can. There are many things that can go wrong with windows, such as breaking, frosting over, and fogging up. These are just a few of the problems, and here are some of the quick and easy fixes to these problems.

Keep windows from frosting

An easy way to keep a window from frosting over in the winter when it's cold outside is to take a sponge and soak it in salt water, then wipe the entire window. After wiping the entire window inside and out with salt water, wipe dry with a soft cloth. Now you won't have to worry about the window frosting over during the winter months.

Keep windows from fogging

If you happen to have a problem with your windows fogging up, here's what you can do to fix it. Take a moist cloth and rub it with a bar of soap, then wipe the entire window inside and out with the cloth. Rinse the windows with clear water to remove the soapy residue and wipe dry with a dry cloth.

Another way to keep windows from fogging is to wipe the windows inside and out with shaving cream. You don't need a lot of shaving cream, just enough to cover the window with a thin layer. Then rinse with clear water and dry with a dry cloth.

Loosen a sticky window

If you have a window that is stuck and doesn't want to budge, try this. Get a bar of soap, silicone spray, or a candle and lubricate the channels so the window can slide open a shut easier.

For added privacy

You don't need to pay a lot of money for windows that are frosted; you can easily do this yourself for the fraction of the price. Brush the window with a solution of one tablespoon Epsom salt and one cup of beer. Just dip a paint brush in the solution and cover the entire window inside and out.

If you decide you don't want the windows to be frosted anymore you can easily take it off. Just wet a soft cloth with some ammonia and wipe the solution from the window. Rinse with clear water, dry with a dry cloth and you're done.

You can easily fix these minor window problems yourself and also save money at the same time. Next time you come across some of these common problems, try some of these tips and get the job done yourself.

We have those supposedly easy to clean windows that open inward. They are great for cleaning but a pain to open just when you want to let in fresh air. I actually prefer the old-fashioned type.
