Hiring a Virtual Assistant

The world of business has changed so much over the years, and has evolved even more over the past couple of years. We can now run small businesses without heavy employee costs and troubles. With the aid of computers, and the internet, we can now hire employees to work over the internet, from the comfort of their own home, if they please. These employees are called virtual assistants or VA's.

Virtual assistants can be hired through certain agencies online or freelance companies. You can hire them to complete specific tasks such as writing reports, gathering information, translating, or even marketing. There is not much limit to what a virtual assistant can do, online of course.

Virtual assistants mostly freelance, although it is absolutely possible, if you value their work, to put them on your business payroll. Just as you would hire a web designer, you could hire someone to do clerical tasks temporarily as well. Let us say for example, that you have a printed manual that you would like turned into an e-manual, you could scan the manual, and hire a virtual assistant to type this for you in your preferred format.

If your business is putting too much workload on you or your employees, and you need extra help, it may be time to look into hiring a virtual assistant. With our advances in technology, there is absolutely no reason for you to have to work long hours, attending to general administration or clerical tasks.

VA's can fit any and all of your business needs. If you have seasonal workload fluctuation, it would be wise to only hire your assistant in that season. If you have certain days of the month where your workload becomes unbearable, but the other days are slow, you could hire an assistant 4-5 days a month. It is also completely feasible to only hire an assistant on a per project basis or one time only.

If you need help but an extra employee is not in your budget, then virtual assistant are the next best thing. But be sure to research the company or individual that you hire. Always check with online complaint centers, and if it is a company that you hire through, be sure to check with the Better Business Bureau and similar online agencies.

Generally the best places to hire virtual assistants are online freelance websites, such as Rentacoder.com, Elance.com, Rent-a-Poster.com. There are many more great websites as well, just go to google.com or your preferred search engine, and type in 'virtual assistant' , 'virtual assistant for hire' , or 'freelance virtual assistant' and it will pull up the most popular freelance websites where you can hire someone. When hiring through these companies, read the rules first, and how to choose the best person for the job. You will want to choose the person(s) with the most experience but that still has a great rate. It is a good rule of thumb to stay away from the newly listed individual. These freelance websites should also offering safe payment methods, to protect both you and the freelancer.

Hiring a virtual assistant can be very exciting, but protect yourself by doing your homework. This information will give you a good start, but when it comes to putting your money in cyberspace, you can not be too careful.
