In Savannah, Georgia there is the River Street Inn and, although it is less than 20 years old, the building dates back to 1817, when it was used as a cotton facility. Its architectural surprises are what gives the hotel a unique touch and appeal. It has a wonderful view of the Savannah River, which adds to already fabulous charm. In Richmond, Virginia there is a fantastic hotel known as the Jefferson which is a favorite destination used by several celebrities over the years, which includes 11 US presidents. Imagine that it is 1905 and now think of the appeal of a European hunting lodge with plenty of stone and wood. The El Tovar in Grand Canyon, Arizona has been visited by such guests as Teddy Roosevelt and Albert Einstein. Opened by a cattle baron in 1886 "The Driskill" is a masterpiece of Roman architecture and Victorian design. The hotel boasts of marble floors, stained glass and arched window expansions. This hotel gives the immediate taste of luxury from when you first walk through their doorway. Rooms offer plush and luxurious amenities while still having a western appeal. In Spokane, Washington there is a hard to be believed luxurious hotel known as "The Davenport Hotel", it was in ruins a few years ago however it has had a complete renovation and reopened in 2002. This hotel originally opened in 1914 and the renovation has the guests revisiting the majestic ballrooms and grand lobby that once made this hotel a showplace. It was a popular staying point for celebrities like Benny Goodman and Clark Gable and now has become a lavish renovated masterpiece drawing modern day tourists the same as it did in it's glory days. On the Florida coast the timing of the Casa Marina's opening in 1924 was extraordinary. Located on Jacksonville Beach which was a hot trendy spot drawing a diverse patronage of British royalty, presidents and celebrities like Al Capone. Rumor says that everyone who was anyone was lured to the hotel by it's Spanish-Mediterranean charm. It has been renovated over the years but still retains it's roaring 20's appeal and it's casual elegance and charm. In New York the most historic hotel has to be " The Algonquin Hotel" it was opened in 1902 and has been a haven for numerous celebrities including Dorothy Parker and Douglas Fairbanks. Just minutes from Times Square the hotel provides a retreat from the New York hustle and bustle. An extensive renovation in 2004 brought in modern advancements but the Algonquin has retained it's classic old world charm and elegance. It is located at 59 West 44th St. in New York, New York and the phone number is 888-304-2047. I won't say it isn't a pricey hotel stay but it is a historic masterpiece of service and architecture that makes for an attractive stay in New York City. Although the rooms tend to be small it, it is one of the most sought after hotels in New York. The rooms range from 300 dollars to 700 per night and you won't be disappointed by the great location and service.

The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables Florida is another well known historic hotels. The grand Mediterranean Revival building was built in 1926 and has a dramatic lobby featuring a hand painted ceiling and craftsmanship beyond belief. It rises above the city of Coral Gables and is modeled after Giralda "a bell tower in Seville". The Biltmore has an impressive swimming pool which is one of the largest hotel pools in the United States. Rates range from 300 to 2, 500 per night, depending on requirements.
