Historic Hotels of the U.S.

The United States is full of wonderful, historic hotels. Believe it or not, there is also an association for these hotels called HHA, which stands for Historic Hotels of America. Visiting historic hotels is a great way to take a trip back in time and see how things looked and were done years ago. These are some of the hotels that I came about while searching for historic hotels.

Since I am a South Carolinian, I found that South Carolina has quite a few historic hotels. My favorite would be the Beaufort Inn. Located in Beaufort, SC, the Beaufort Inn was built in 1897. The Inn was built by an attorney and later sold to make a boarding house for government officials and military personnel. In 1993 the Beaufort Inn was bought by Debbie and Russel Fielding who made various renovations. The Inn is now owned by Associated Luxury Inns of Beaufort. Room rates are between $150 and $425.

The Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa is located in Asheville, NC. In 1912, Edwin W. Grove began building the Grove Park Inn. Massive granite stones were used during the construction, some weighing more than 10,000 pounds. The Grove Park Inn has been visited by many U.S Presidents. Rates can range from $150 to $1,350.00.

Williamsburg, Virginia is well known for it's historic past. The Colonial Houses of Wiliamsburg is made up of 28 buildings and 76 guests rooms that helps make this 300 year old neighborhood. When lodging at the Colonial Houses, you will be content that there is no other place like this. Colonial Houses offer guest a place to stay that will remind them of early days. Standard room rates are from $170 to $450.

The south is known for it's Southern Hospitality and The Mulberry Inn in Savannah, Georgia, is no exception. Built in the 1860's the Mulberry Inn once served as stables as well as a cotton warehouse. Coca-Cola was also housed here in the early 1900's. the Mulberry Inn will provide you with luxuries as well as comforts that will make your stay wonderful. Rates are as much as $269 for suites.

The Peabody, opened in 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee is one of the most well known hotels in the state. Anyone who is anyone can be seen at the Peabody, being the preferred gathering place for Memphis business and society. Rooms range from $235 to $550.

Thayer's Historic Bed and Breakfast, located in Annandale, Minnesota is known as one of the most haunting Bed and Breakfast in the United States. Thayer's was built in the early 1900's and still has the elegance of the early years. Rooms can be rented for around $200 a night which includes a wonderful breakfast the following morning.

Harbor House Bed and Breakfast in Georgetown, South Carolina was built in 1976 and belonged to a Scottish physician Dr. Charles Fyffe. The Harbor House is known as one of the south's coastal treasures. Rooms are available for between $150 and $200 a night.

Oak Hill on Love Lane Bed and Breakfast in Waynesville, North Carolina was formerly the Clyde H. Ray Sr house which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Inn was built in the early 1900's and offers guests a comfortable and elegant stay. Rooms can be rented for $200 to $300 a night.

The Hillside Farm Bed and Breakfast in Lancaster, Pennsylvania is a farm home located in a peaceful setting that features an old pre civil war farmhouse. This old, charming place is great to get away and relax while listening to the farm animals. Rooms and cottages can be rented for less than $250 a night.

Fort Worth Bed and Breakfast, known as The Texas White House, was established in 1994 and is a member of the American Historic Inns. This enchanting place promises to be one of the best Bed and Breakfast in Texas. Rooms can be rented for $350 and under a night.
