Historic Landmarks in Canada

John Vann
Monuments come in all forms; from a simple rock used as a marker to elaborate buildings and temples built from the finest materials. Some have been built in recent years to memorialize a particular event in history, while others have been preserved throughout the ages for all generations to enjoy. Every country has at least one national monument, but some larger countries have hundreds or even thousands. This includes the country of Canada.

Fort Calgary

Operated by the Fort Calgary Preservation Society, Fort Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada was originally built over the course of six weeks in 1875 by the Northwest Mounted Police. All of the buildings in the compound were eventually destroyed, with the exception of The Deane House which stands today as a restaurant. The Fort Calgary Preservation Society has worked tirelessly since 1994 to rebuild the fort, an effort which is an ongoing process. Fort Calgary is open to the public every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
