An Audio book is not really a book but an audio version of a book. That is why, we prefer to use the word in a combined manner i.e. AudioBook. You can also call it as a Talking Book. Audio book is nothing but recording of a book on tape device or any other media. Generally, audio books are recording of commercial matter over a tape device. Such recordings are generally used in schools and colleges to teach students and to distribute these recordings to those who are unable to learn quickly. In such a scenario, audio books prove to be very helpful because a student can listen to the audio many times and learn easily. If a student is blind, these audio books perform the work of eyes for him.

Audio books can be stored to cassettes, CDs, DVDs, and any other media that is capable of storing audio files. The best part of audio books is their portability; you can carry them anywhere, anytime. Also, the popularity of devices like iPods, Zen players, mp3 players and other audio playing devices have made it easy for the users to listen to the audio books anywhere, anytime and at any place.

Since, audio books on cassettes or CDs are more expensive as they are available commercially, with the use of portable mp3 and audio players, you can distribute it easily to your friends saving the extra cost that you might have to spend. This is the reason why the popularity of audio books has increased so much. Earlier, audio books that were available at a very high price could now be purchased at low prices as they are available in downloadable form. Another major advantage of audio books is reduction in use of paper providing some positive effect to the environment.

If you want to purchase an audio book, go on the internet and search on Google for audio books. You will find plenty of websites that deal with audio books. One such website is http://www.audiobooks.org. On this website, you will find plenty of books available in audio format at reduced prices.
